Very good news. And a five-year timeline is pretty fast by municipal standards.

Illinois is moving to legalize attached and detached courtyard housing in every residential zone across the state, as part of a middle housing reform package backed by @govpritzker.illinois.gov. Is this the first domino in a nation-wide movement? courtyardurbanist.com/p/chronicle-...
NEW: Kansas passed an anti-trans law that has retroactively voided the existing IDs of transgender residents.
One major implication: this effectively hinders their access to the polls given the requirements in this state.
Things are escalating in states.

Before (2023) / After (2026) Rue Paul Bodin in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Here, as elsewhere in Paris, angled parking is disappearing, and the space gained makes it possible to plant trees.
Transportation politics is about dragging people kicking and screaming into change that results fairly quickly in a widespread consensus that we can't imagine going back to the way it was before.
Featured story: “It’s showing that the government is willing to literally waste billions upon billions of dollars to make these useless walls … instead of taking that exact same money and making sure that everybody has housing or clean water and food and education.”
Honestly, it's horrifying that the US government can arbitrarily revoke Green Cards.
Rooftop solar has come out of nowhere and is now 20% of Puerto Rico's energy generation mix -- more than natural gas.
We are fighting every day to make Chicago-to-St. Louis high-speed rail a reality. It's a national priority.
Over half of the crashes with bicyclists involved a company previously reported to Bike Lane Uprising for obstructing bike lanes. When we say obstructing bike lanes is unsafe, this is what we mean.
Obstructed bike lanes aren’t just annoying—they’re predictive…

As reported by @2024dion.bsky.social on the other site, Akron OH just released plans to tear out part of their inner freeway and build 4500 new homes on its ruins. We need to do the same to I-94. The message to @mndot.mn.gov is clear: "never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
I noticed a few residential streets in Sydney have been recently converted to low-speed shared streets. This one in Surry Hills is a good compromise design that contains many elements of a Dutch woonerf while still preserving street parking.
The last report from journalist Fatima Ftouni before she was murdered by Israel.
She was covering Israel’s invasion of Southern Lebanon.
really can't be said enough that this case was decided by the same court that decided plessy v. ferguson. if they could have found a plausible rationale to limit birthright citizenship they would have done it. but there is none! the text is as clear as constitutional language can be.

This cruelty is being done in our name. Shame on this administration. Shame.
13,000 third country deportees so far. Many were ordered deported decades or even generations earlier, but no admin previously would have considered something as inhumane as this as a means of carrying out a removal.
Awful. A teenager, dead by suicide in an ICE detention center. There is now a crisis of suicide inside the detention system; I have never seen anything like it. Suicide has happened before, but they were very rare. This is the third or fourth this year.
Plenty of people call 311 with reasonable requests and questions. There are also people who call with slightly more... memorable inquiries.
Here are some of our favorites from the NYC 311 20th Anniversary Report 👇

Shot in the head and face. Executed with their parents. No words.
And here I thought EMS arriving on the scene was supposed to perform triage first.
"Per the analysis by Open the Books, in September, the Pentagon spent $2 million on Alaskan king crab, $6.9 million on lobster tail, $15.1 million on ribeye steak, and $1 million on salmon. Dessert included 272 orders of doughnuts for $139,224 and ice cream machines for $124,000."
For the same $6 trillion cost, you could crush child poverty with a child allowance and free childcare, fix unemployment insurance, do paid family, sick & medical leave, massively boost ACA subsidies, and eliminate child uninsurance with Medicare for Kids.
City officials in Corpus Christi, Texas, expect to reach a “water emergency” within months and run out of water next year. That would halt jet fuel deliveries to airports, hike gas prices “and trigger a local economic disaster without precedent.”

Staff at the nation’s largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
They've now killed four people -- three U.S. citizens and a Mexican national. They've shot several more.
They've lied about all of them. They haven't shaded the truth. They haven't "misled" us. They've brazenly, knowingly lied while in possession of the evidence disproving their lies.
Rest in peace Rubin Ray Martinez. 🙏🏽
