This is somewhat misleading. Perhaps not in its overall data, but in certain places - the northeast of the USA for instance - there is 100 percent observer coverage on every dragger and all bycatch is recorded.

Hmm. Would seem they’d have to start the license procedure again from scratch, though, right?

Crazy. I hope they fold but I also hope something better goes in and not worse. Which is always a possibility.

Earlier this month, The Washington Post scuttled its Books section amid mass layoffs. Its former editor, @johnwilliams.bsky.social, on why he thinks the paper’s leaders are wrong about subscriber loyalty:

It’s remarkable to me what rich people chose to do with their money. Imagine you’re one of the richest people in the world. Imagine the responsibility. The gift. Imagine what you could do, especially at this time in this country, with The Washington Post. Instead you give $70 million to Melania.

Review | A historian corrects the record about the mysteries of Easter Island In “Island at the Edge of the World,” Mike Pitts tells the story of the people who carved the giant heads on the remotest inhabited place on Earth.

My current and, sadly, last review for The Washington Post, as it retrenches and bows and eliminates its book section.

Wrote about this way back in my 2020 book Liar’s Circus. Actually Elias Canetti wrote about Trump without probably having ever heard of him in Crowds and Power.

Everybody knew. One of the main characters in my book Liar’s Circus told me he wasn’t coming to DC for the rally because there was going to be trouble. Days before January 6th. This was just a foot soldier.

Absurd as everything this admin does. And per usual just complete ignorance. Anyone interested in Amelia should read @lauriestories.bsky.social new book The Aviator and The Showman.

These people are nuts. They sound more and more like the Taliban or the right wing Israelis. They hate America.

Opinion | Trump Is Not Afraid of Civil War. Neither Is Stephen Miller.

“...you will live in exile, because the power of law enforcement under President Trump’s leadership will be used to find you, will be used to take away your money, take away your power, and if you have broken the law, to take away your freedom.”
