The inclusion of other video games in this video game is getting a little silly, honestly. #playdate.

In Post Hero 2, double tapping a d-pad button makes the mailman auto-walk in that direction, and very quickly. This is in no way related to negative feedback I may have received about a different game. #playdate
Here's a bunch more, including Bedbeard himself. At this point I think I've drawn more stuff for this one than the original game and The Whiteout combined. #playdate #pixelart
They're not going anywhere until their demands are met, so meet their demands or they're just going to come up with more demands! #playdate

Do you think a robot peeing on things is funny? Have I got a game for you. #playdate
If you haven't played Post Hero, this is a good opportunity to pick it up for half off to prepare yourself for Bedbeard's Revenge later this year.
(The rest of my goofy games are half off, too.) #playdate
He likes to play. #playdate
Lousy sense of direction? Pick up a handy map from the Circle J!

Is there a reason to have the mailman's reflection in the mirror inside the barber shop? No. Is it an accurate reflection? Also no.

A screenshot from Post Hero: Bedbeard's Revenge showing the redrawn interior of the Crow's Nest pub. An Anthrobot wearing a pirate hat and an eye patch is behind the bar, and the mailman is sitting on a barrel at a table.
The Crow's Nest is under new management. Still no top-shelf liquor, though. #playdate
Our 3rd Catalog Anniversary Sale is right around the corner ๐๐
200+ games will be on sale starting at 10 AM PST on March 5th โก
I wrote this as a *joke* in the Bedbeard's Revenge pitch deck for Playdate Season Two a couple of years ago.
I've been working on this for about six months now. The story is a parody of artificial intelligence and the arrogance of big tech, and while no AI was used in the creation of the game, it does make absolutely merciless fun of it.
I'm aiming for a release this summer on Catalog!
And just like in the original, dying doesn't matter and is part of the fun. Find them all! (There will be more than five, that's just how many there are now) #playdate
A screenshot from Post Hero: Bedbeard's Revenge showing to older gentlemen sitting on a bench in front of a hardware store. The one of the left has a voice bubble above his head that reads "Don't start with me!". They are arguing about punctuation.
A new addition to the framework is voice bubbles that allow characters to make random quips about the world.
A screenshot from Post Hero: Bedbeard's Revenge showing the mailman, Carl and Lloyd in front of a coffee shop while Lloyd uses a jackhammer to install potholes in the street.
There's also a LOT of new characters, but also familiar faces from the original. #playdate
There's a lot of new places in the game, but locations from the first game have been redrawn completely! #playdate
Post Hero: Bedbeard's Revenge
What do you mean you'd already guessed that those screenshots lately were from a Post Hero sequel? They could have been from anything!
#playdate
There is also a whole other place in the video game that has video games that you can play. #playdate
This is where you'll find the previously mentioned video game in the video game, by the way. #playdate
Oh! And the collide rects of the objects work the same way they do for the player. That's why Marcus is standing in front of the help desk (his collide rect is lower on screen than the desk's is) and why Brenda is behind it.
Ok, now I'm done.
And that's pretty much it! The game is constantly looking to see if you're overlapping with anything interesting, and if the thing you're overlapping with is allowed to happen yet.
Thank you for coming to my adventure game talk.
Lastly, those events and interactions can have directives on them that tell them they can't happen until something else has already happened. For example, the blue box off to the right isn't valid yet. A character will later be standing there after something else has happened in the game.
All of those events and interactions have identifiers attached to them, and those identifiers are written to state. That's how the game keeps track of what you've seen and done, and how what you've seen it done effects other parts of the game.
It it's an event, and it hasn't already happened, what kind if event is it? Events can teleport the player to another scene (like walking through a door) or cause something else in the scene to happen (an item appears, or an NPC moves, etc).
If its an interaction, did it already happen? If it did, we can ignore it. If not, we'll show the UI to call the player's attention to it.
