I've put a lot of focus on learning to use Tables effectively in Inform 7, and I think I've got it down! They're saving me a ton of repetitive code and/or extensive condition trees and make readability so smooth!

Sorry for the hiatus. I've tried off and on to work on Why Are You Here [slight title change] but due to a minor but persistent injury last summer, I've been struggling.

After much playing around with it, I finally got the built-in interpreter to work how I wanted it to! Now when I Release my demo for the next person, you can play without having to download a program or visit a separate website! Anyone interested in trying my horror game?

For the past week, every time I fixed one issue with combat, and then the flashlight system, another issue cropped up in its place. I am SO HAPPY to report that after extensive debugging, I've pinpointed all the problems and the game is playing perfectly!

Having been reminded that I never polished the very beginning of the game like I intended (yay ADHD!) I just finished turning the spawn in your car into its own room you can get in and get out of to travel to the street, and then progress further into the game!

I was playing A Dark Room and thought to myself "this is neat ... I wonder how hard it would be to learn to write a text-based game from scratch.
A quick search led me to Inform 7, and here I am now making a horror game! (The answer was: hard, but not very)
Wow, I had to turn combat into a triggered scene in order to implement a sanity level system! That said, it's all working now. It's been days in the making, but it's done! Now I don't know what to work on next. What would you suggest for a horror game?

Combat is almost perfect! The final hurdle to tackle tonight after work is player death not triggering. Everything else is finally working perfectly. No more zombie punch!

That small combat issue? Yeah, it was a huge problem to the point that I'm rewriting combat again using Lanista 2 elements to create my own attacking system separate from Inform's built-in one. So far, so good!

Ran into a small combat issue where the hostile spirit was still attacking the player after the death message printed. Working on solving that through some variable rules to toggle in combat!

My combat system is finally complete and functioning exactly as I want it to! Wandering Spirit is my first hostile character, who begins passive, and she will follow you from room to room after becoming hostile and attack you. I'm so proud π₯Ή

Hah! I had to completely remove one of Inform's built-in rules, but my combat system is functioning exactly as I intended it now! Well, player combat. Now I need to define enemy combat, easy peasy (I say now.)

It's moving day, but this morning I worked on rewriting my new combat system, which was firing messages in reverse, then had the player attacking themself, then the small flashlight attacked the player ... it was a lot. I'm starting from the ground up!

Oh boy, it took all night and all morning, but I finally managed to override Inform 7's default climb behaviour to allow the player to >climb stairs. Even redefining it wasn't working quite right.

To clarify, the player exists to the extent of being able to interact with the world, but Inform is struggling to identify the player in debug testing, likely due to my custom player name system. This, I believe, is leading to weird, subtle interaction errors, like the closet that is open and closed
This simple bit of gameplay right here led to me going down a rabbithole of discovery that the player DOESN'T EXIST. Somehow the player doesn't exist. I don't know how I did that, but I need to figure out how to fix it π
