Yes. I should clarify that by “snap”, I mean immediate. Premiers are free to call an early election, but they can’t call it without giving plenty of notice. The law, as currently worded, was not in place in 2019… but there was advance notifice

3/ So everyone will get more than a month’s notice.
I’ll also add that, while the premier has sent mixed signals on the matter of an early election, he has said a couple of times that 2026 will not be an election year.

2/ Section 49 (4) of the Elections Act, enacted a few years ago, requires the government to implement (via a publicly available cabinet order) a blackout on advertising for at least 32 days before calling the election.
