We are spending billions to keep our entire navy in the Strait to fecklessly fail to open a waterway that wasn’t closed until Trump’s pointless war of choice closed it.
He’s just burning your tax money.

I am in Barcelona today to help unite progressive parties from around the world in a defense of democracy and a war against corruption. A first of its kind event. Necessary to beat back the forces of fascism.
I'm helping to lead a group of Senate Democrats who are planning to force a vote - every single week the Senate is in session - to end the war in Iran. We have that right under the Senate rules, and we are going to keep putting Republicans on record supporting this insane war.
The nonstop grift the Trump family is running on taxpayers is just extraordinary.
Orban copied Trump. Trump copied Orban.
And in the end, the people of Hungary chose democracy and the rule of law. As will happen here too. But only if we do our work, like they did.
3 ships.
The Strait is not open.
Israel must stop these attacks. No matter how incompetently negotiated this ceasefire was, we should all want it hold. But that means all parties to this regional war - the U.S., Iran, Israel, and Iran's proxies - must stand down.
This is an account close to the Iranian leadership. We are now seeing the shape of why Iran agreed so enthusiastically to this "ceasefire".
They will control and toll the Strait for the first time. They keep their nuclear program. They keep their missiles.
What a disaster.
No President in control of his senses would publicly promise to eradicate an entire civilization.
That's why I agree with Republicans who have put the 25th Amendment on the table. Trump seems to be taking us on a path to mass war crimes. That's a path we cannot accept.
It appears Trump just agreed to give Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz, a history-changing win for Iran.
The level of incompetence is both stunning and heartbreaking.
What on earth is happening?
In an age of creeping relativism, a universal moral law still exists.
Threatening to end an entire civilization of 90 million people in order to bend a nation’s conduct to your will is grossly morally wrong. It is evil. And we should say this loudly.
The refs have taken control of this game. Fouls are 11 to 4? Ridiculous. Only reason Michigan is in this game.
If I were in Trump's Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment.
This is completely, utterly unhinged. He's already killed thousands. He's going to kill thousands more.
If you support the troops, advocate for an end to this pointless, bungled war.
My upcoming book, Crisis of the Common Good, is all about the underlying spiritual sickness in America - how we have come to worship profit, consumption, and technology at the expense of real meaning and connection.
Here are the dates for the book tour.
Prediction markets aren't just corrupt.
They are a sign of our nation's spiritual atrophy - as every moral question became commodified and wagering becomes a growing source of meaning and purpose.
My latest substack:
This is what we run on this fall. Also the corruption.
I just don’t think you need to love war crimes to be a real man.
Anyone watching that speech has no idea whether Trump is escalating or deescalating the war with Iran. But to be fair, neither does he so🤷♂️.
Objectively, the plain evidence shows they are not close to "decimated":
- they still have loads of missiles and drones and take out U.S. and allied targets every day.
- they control the Strait for the first time
- they still have a nuclear program
- the regime is intact
It's scary to have a President this divorced from reality.
I mean there it is.
Look who I ran into at the No Kings rally in Torrance, California.
Good afternoon. Speaker Johnson was sent a bill to fund TSA, the Coast Guard and FEMA that passed the Senate 100-0. If he had simply called it for a vote it would passed easily.
But he chose chaos. Because that’s what Trump wants. Only Johnson can clean up this mess.
We had a 100-0 bipartisan deal in the Senate and the House blew it up because the Republicans who run Congress apparently don’t talk to each other and prefer chaos.
A bill passed the Senate last night 100-0 to fund TSA, the Coast Guard and FEMA. If Speaker Johnson called it for a vote it would pass easily.
But he won’t do that. Because Trump has ordered him to keep TSA shut down and keep the chaos.
Pure incompetence.
I’m going to be on @cnn.com in a few minutes to answer a simple question: why are Republicans holding TSA and our airports hostage to get more funding for ICE? Let’s open our airports!
Good afternoon.
This is your daily reminder that Trump just lifted sanctions on Iran to give them $14 BILLION to hep fund their war against us.
In other words, your daily reminder that this is probably the dumbest war of all time.
It's just unreal how little thought or planning went into starting a new massive war in the Middle East.
Or…Trump could just reopen TSA! Democrats have put legislation on the floor a half dozen times to reopen TSA and Republicans block it every time.
