the rationalist views on public education are pretty heterodox, like Bryan Caplan it’s all a waste of money and it’s mostly (~70%) just babysitting and signalling to employers for conscientiousness, conformity and IQ.
2/ When we don't allow more people to live in already developed areas close to jobs, schools, employment, etc., we force them to live somewhere else. Here's a time lapse video of the Bear Mountain Resort, and other development, outside of Langford between 1984 and 2022.

This week, Victoria will be considering a grant of $677k to help finance the conversion of a near-complete apartment building to a non-market co-operative.
It’s the 179-unit Tresah building near Mayfair. The developers fell on hard times and had to sell.

This is excellent. I have a friend who went through this process. We talked it over many times and I followed along. They got some help from TRAC and were ultimately successful in getting the application denied because the work was doing outside the 18 month window.

So far it’s great! Enjoying the convo re computation
In theory, the brain is a prediction computation representation information machine.
In reality, the brain is an anticipatory collective of dynamic living cells.
Do our metaphors matter for understanding brains?
Romain @romainbrette.bsky.social says yes...

Exactly this. Referendums pull out policy questions from their home inside the trade off machine that is government. It’s an artificial question w/o the costs of choosing packaged in the w. That said, I get why Mike wants The Answer so we can make progress.
Putting in an order today! Well done!
