An abundant 🌍 Earth Day 🌎 message from @samcalisch.bsky.social of Copper:
“it’s a little bit less about ‘Pry my gas stove from my cold, dead hands’ and a little bit more about ‘Oh, wow, I want that.’
"It’s less about gas being bad, and more about this being a better future.”

Light blue and yellow circles highlight letters, spelling out the words reduce, reuse, recycle, and conservation as part of The New York Times strands word game on Earth Day 2026
Realizing in the #EarthDay gif selection and word games how much the outdated message of scarcity is still stuck in the culture.
Can we move to: heat pumps, EVs, rewilding, solar, regenerative farming, organic gardening🌱, induction cooking, vintage clothes— and other cool & meaningful actions?
France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.
Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars
The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.
Why aren't we doing this?
There is no excuse for downplaying or eliding the insanity of Trump’s morning post. It is the most unhinged public comment by a president in US history and should be reported and remarked upon as such.
The caption on the TV keeps saying “Hormones Straight” because the sociopath keeps saying what sounds like hor-MOZE Straight and the AI can’t make sense of it. With which we can all sympathize.
And almost full moon brightens up the night sky behind a chimney and a magnolia grandiflora branch in Alexandria VA.
But the moon at 8pm!
A close-up of a fluffy white flower head starting to form with red and yellow tipped spikes on top of flat greenish blue leaves
son of a bee sting, I think you’re right
🌱
A small collection of blue green star shaped leaf clusters with 1 and 2 inch flowers starting to spike out of them. The flowers are clusters of rosettes with a pink hue and yellow spikes coming out of them.
Put these native Plantain-leaved Pussytoes, Antennaria plantaginifolia, in last year, and now I’m unnaturally excited to see them starting to bloom. The flowers are supposed to look like cat or dog toes!
Juries— regular people— are taking on the tech companies when people in leadership positions can’t muster consensus, or are flat-out corrupt. (🎁 link)

New York Times’ Spelling Bee game, a circle of honeycomb shaped gray and yellow shapes with letters, rejecting the word “FORB” as “Not in word list.”
Wut?🌱
Fresh take from the UK 🌞
A bald eagle had lunch in a tree 🌱 near our house, and then fell asleep for the next three hours sitting fully upright.
This caused my wife to google eagle behavior and say “The number one killer of humans is eagles.”
👀
Seconds later, “No, sorry, I meant the reverse.” Still not good, but…
“Scientists and other experts were preparing a first-of-its-kind assessment of the health of 🌱nature🌱 in the U.S. when President Trump returned to the White House.
“He canceled the report.
“The researchers went ahead and compiled it on their own. This week, they released a 868-page draft…” 🎁
A 10 inch oval sign with colorful fallen leaves decorating the top and bottom and a friendly Park Service vibe font inviting people to help the bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects by leaving the leaves.
I know there’s much greater tragedy in the world, but today is the day of the Great Spring Insect Apocalypse when 8 people wearing gas-powered leaf blowers on their backs sweep across my neighbor’s yard.
My @xercessociety.bsky.social “Leave the Leaves” sign is working hard for the chickadees. 🌱

“Facial recognition technology has long raised civil liberty and privacy concerns for its potential use by governments to monitor citizens and suppress dissent, by corporations to track unwitting customers or by creeps at bars.”
Protest sign from MN that says, “DEARLY BELOVED. WE ARE GATHERED HERE TODAY TODISMANTLE THIS THING CALLED ICE.” with a picture of Prince in the left hand lower corner.

ABC News headline “What $9B s spending cuts could mean for PBS, NPR stations, especially in rural areas”
American split screen this Thanksgiving:
Macy’s crowd goes wild for the Sesame Street float … while fewer children will get to see it as the evil dictator’s cuts to public stations hit home.
We all need Big Bird energy this year!
We spend 90% of our time indoors, and unhealthy air is making us sicker and dumber than we need to be!
All humans who 🌬️breathe air 🌬️should listen to these great ideas.
Thanks for giving this topic some oxygen @volts.wtf and his guest Georgia Lagoudas of @pandemiccenter.bsky.social.
An underrated part of our misinformation problem: It's not just that we're awash in deliberate propaganda from ideologues and hacks. Huge, huge numbers of people are primarily getting their political news from morons. They're not deliberately lying; they just pull stuff out of their ass on stream.
Saturday morning sunshine: Detroit has 1,400 urban gardens, growing food for communities ... and peppers for hot sauce!
Fun story on the rise of 🌱agrihoods🌱 from @bibathediva.bsky.social.
The world’s first trillionaire initiated a move that has left more than half a million people dead, most of whom are children.
Duh.
But @wired.com continues to understand the assignment! 🏆
