Now we’re cooking Sam Calisch, SM ’14, PhD ’19, wants to make your kitchen greener—and bolster the grid at the same time. He’s starting with battery-powered electric ranges that plug into a standard outlet.

An abundant 🌍 Earth Day 🌎 message from @samcalisch.bsky.social of Copper:

“it’s a little bit less about ‘Pry my gas stove from my cold, dead hands’ and a little bit more about ‘Oh, wow, I want that.’

"It’s less about gas being bad, and more about this being a better future.”

Light blue and yellow circles highlight letters, spelling out the words reduce, reuse, recycle, and conservation as part of The New York Times strands word game on Earth Day 2026

Realizing in the #EarthDay gif selection and word games how much the outdated message of scarcity is still stuck in the culture.

Can we move to: heat pumps, EVs, rewilding, solar, regenerative farming, organic gardening🌱, induction cooking, vintage clothes— and other cool & meaningful actions?

France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.

Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars

The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.

Why aren't we doing this?

There is no excuse for downplaying or eliding the insanity of Trump’s morning post. It is the most unhinged public comment by a president in US history and should be reported and remarked upon as such.

Put these native Plantain-leaved Pussytoes, Antennaria plantaginifolia, in last year, and now I’m unnaturally excited to see them starting to bloom. The flowers are supposed to look like cat or dog toes!

A bald eagle had lunch in a tree 🌱 near our house, and then fell asleep for the next three hours sitting fully upright.

This caused my wife to google eagle behavior and say “The number one killer of humans is eagles.”

👀

Seconds later, “No, sorry, I meant the reverse.” Still not good, but…

I know there’s much greater tragedy in the world, but today is the day of the Great Spring Insect Apocalypse when 8 people wearing gas-powered leaf blowers on their backs sweep across my neighbor’s yard.

My @xercessociety.bsky.social “Leave the Leaves” sign is working hard for the chickadees. 🌱

What's the deal with indoor air quality? Podcast Episode · Volts · 11/19/2025 · 1h 3m

We spend 90% of our time indoors, and unhealthy air is making us sicker and dumber than we need to be!

All humans who 🌬️breathe air 🌬️should listen to these great ideas.

An underrated part of our misinformation problem: It's not just that we're awash in deliberate propaganda from ideologues and hacks. Huge, huge numbers of people are primarily getting their political news from morons. They're not deliberately lying; they just pull stuff out of their ass on stream.
