Late last summer, a small group of political appointees began convening at âŠâȘDHSâŹâ© HQ. The group â which once called itself âTeam Americaâ â looked for federal levers it could pull to make Trumpâs March executive order about elections a reality. @dougbockclark.bsky.social @jenafifield.bsky.social

Absolutely gutted to learn my friend, Shelly Kittleson, has been kidnapped in Baghdad possibly by Kataib Hezbollah, according to initial reports. Shelly is incredibly kind, talented, and cares deeply about the region and its people. Praying for her safe return.

The SAVE America Act isnât just about voter IDâit hands power to an executive agency to decide the rules after it becomes law. Vague, rushed, and risky. Congress doesnât want to tell us how the law will be enforced, and thatâs the real problem, warns Catoâs Walter Olson. https://ow.ly/qqzs50YAPH3

Quiet. Part. Loud.
Article excerpt: The baby needed somewhere to go. So in the frantic hours before officers took her parents away to immigration detention, her mom turned to their pastor and his wife. As squad cars waited outside the familyâs Lakeland, Florida, trailer home, she gave them a crash course in how to care for the 4-month-old. Briany, with her plump cheeks and full head of dark hair, wasnât normally this fussy. But it was late that January night â around midnight â and she was still hungry. Her mom, Doris Flores, had tried nursing her to calm her down. It didnât work. When she brought Briany to her breast, the milk wouldnât come. Flores thought it had to do with the panic that set in after the officers arrested the babyâs father and told her she was next.
Continued article excerpt: The baby also drank formula. The pastor and his wife, whoâd never had children of their own, should take her bottles and the yellow cans of formula, too, and follow the instructions on the label. They should use distilled water, never from the tap. Briany drank 5 ounces at each feeding. She needed to eat every two to two-and-a-half hours. She was almost due for her next round of vaccinations. She was getting big enough for Size 3 diapers. What made her happiest was to be held in someoneâs arms. The Rev. Israel VĂĄzquez, 58, soft-spoken with close-cropped hair, had held Briany before, when he formally presented the baby to God in a ceremony at his Pentecostal church in Lakeland. If he and his wife, a fellow pastor at the church, didnât take the girls in, they would have to go into foster care. âWhat else could we do?â he said.
When Doris Flores was arrested, she begged officers not to separate her from her baby, Briany: âMy girl needs me.â
Briany was one of thousands of U.S. citizen kids whose parents ICE detained in Trumpâs immigration crackdown.

screenshotted excerpt from my article (!) in the Villanova Law Review (!), linked in the post excerpt reads: "The chasm between America's words and deeds is often vast. But failure to achieve a goal does not mean the goal itself has no value. And King recognized that it would be a mistake to conclude that the words are meaningless. The better takeaway is that we the people confer meaning onto the Constitution through interpretation and application."

London, San Francisco and Beijing are among 19 global cities that have achieved âremarkable reductionsâ
in air pollution, slashing pollutant levels by more than 20% since 2010âŠâinterventions such as cycle lanes, electric cars and restrictions on polluting vehicles helped to drive the improvements.â
A very Trump 2 sequence of events here:
1. Trump creates problem
2. Senate resolves problem, exercising constitutional authority of Congress
3. House GOP rejects solution
4. Trump takes unlawful steps to "solve" problem, seizing the rightful authority of Congress with the assent of the House GOP
