Massive turnout for #wearedei today
Glad to see another #MichiganMedicine physician at the #DEI march today on the Diag. Huge turnout, I estimate at least 1000 people. (Including lots of seniors, disabled with wheelchairs, walkers and canes) and a very cute golden retriever puppy named Louie proudly sporting a pride flag on his collar
marcher obscured by sign reading "Harvard has a spine -- UM where's yours?"

The comments do not disappoint
4) "It’s bias against autistic people….He’s trying to eradicate support, especially with education, that could help people live the kind of lives where they do get to write poetry.” For a good interview and commentary, visit this article in Mother Jones www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
3) In the words of award-winning, autistic POET Elizabeth McClellan (also attorney, and legal educator), “You can’t eradicate autism without eradicating autistic people. It’s genocidal rhetoric against us that’s justified by 'autism destroys families. It destroys children.' No, it doesn’t."
2) He brings tremendous joy to our family. He also happens to be on the spectrum. My son can do all of these things, and just like everyone else, there are some things he cannot do. Or things he requires some help to do. Such is life for every single one of us.

1) Not to simply counter the recent comments of complete asshat—and apparent example of a merit hire—RFK, who’s most significant qualification is his last name, with an ableist example, but here’s a boy enjoying a triathlon. He’s also a tremendous artist, deep thinker, and future engineer.

RFK Jr. says there are no autistic poets, so we interviewed one.

Sports, political as always.
Kerr’s father was the president of the American University in Beirut until he was assassinated in 1984. Kerr has skin in this game.
Ok, good job, Garber, but I really could have done without the word "private" in this passage.
"No government—regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue."
Coinciding with it's "No" letter Harvard has refashioned its university homepage into essentially an advertisement for the social benefits of university research. This is the current front page.
Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.
From Princeton:
“We believe it's important to defend academic freedom, and that's not something that can be compromised.”
Wow!
