This line nails it,
"The job of prime minister isn’t to follow process: it is to navigate and advocate for trade-offs."

Morgan Gibbs-White completes his hat-trick to put Nottingham Forest 3-1 up against Burnley.
What should have happened: the REIT paid no tax but the Tice companies holding shares in the REIT paid £98k tax on the dividends they received. What actually happened: none of the companies paid any tax.
Our new report: Richard Tice signed accounts wrongly claiming £98,000 of tax exemptions
A 🧵 with the evidence:
Concern grows for Suella Braverman as she completely forgets she spent nine years as part of the Conservative government, including two periods as Home Secretary, responsible for immigration.
I agree. The same people would say the by election loss to the Greens means Labour need to lean more into Reform to win votes from them.
Every political sign is distorted to mean McSweeney's strategy is the only one to follow.
It's cult like thinking.
Have nothing but respect for Bayern, a real club run by real people that just get it……..

It’s a great moment to remember that in the leadup to this popular uprising, the first major gut-punch was delivered by Budapest Pride. Poetic justice. 🇭🇺🏳️🌈
It's pretty clear that the unwritten contract with the middle classes (ie about the things you've mentioned) is pretty much broken.
Seen this happen in workplace negotiations as well.
NOW: B52 bombers are literally in the air on their way to Iran and hundreds of thousands of Iranians are in the streets waving flags and surrounding bridges & power plants.
Difficult to imagine this has any precedent in modern warfare.

"Watching the Artemis crew on their way around the moon now is emotional. I am – still – filled with longing that it was me in that capsule and sadness that it never will be. But more than that, I marvel at it"
Some personal reflections...

That was a great read. Thanks for sharing. I feel your longing.
Energy engineer turned trade union official (soon to be retired here).
I'm still fascinated by all things space, from the Cold War Space Race, to the awe of cosmology.
Your article captured the magic and wonder of space beautifully.
The GOP has gone past cowardly.
Cowards would just do nothing.
This GOP makes absurd and contrived justifications for what Trump is doing and saying.
It's a collective madness that started with cowardice, and descended into this.
Forest and Spurs fans will be happy with all this extra time wearing out the West Ham players before their match against Wolves on Friday

I'm not convinced he was ever that restrained. It's just as President his comments are more public.
Though I do accept age may have made him even less restrained.
Age has nothing to do with it.
He was clearly damaged at a very early age and his younger self would have been happy with that language.
Many years ago I tried reading some modern philosophy. Couldn't get to grips with most of it (I'm more of a maths/physics nerd).
But I did like Guy Debord's Society of the Spectacle.
These two images came up on my Bluesky feed today and I was reminded of that book.
People who have obsessions care about them; for me it's music, trainers & nerdie things (like properly formatted spreadsheets)
Jenrick doesn't care about marmalade; it is only his obsession in that he knows that it will induce anger and get attention
It is deliberate and performative
No, it's not that they "demand that everyone else should care as well".
It is very deliberate rage bait as with the ridiculous "EU won't allow bendy bananas" articles in the Daily Mail 20 years ago.

A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

I've long thought that typical personal inflation figures should be published for person on minimum wage, male median wage, and 90 percentile wage.
Most people could do with a wider understanding of the impact of low pay
It's the exact opposite of the saying, "wise leaders surround themselves with people who are smarter than them."
