When hiring Juniors, we expect to train you on the job, so the most important point your application has to make is that you're interested in the subject. Do you toy around with NixOS? You run a homelab? Put it on there!

Yeah, it's taken me a lot of years to undo some of the work and some of it is probably here to stay.

Reliability engineering also factors in the probability that a repair will make a system function again.

I'm reminded of this because I built and sold a firewall that booted off a CD and loaded its configuration off a floppy. I thought it kinda jank then, but… solid state stuff fails in weird ways.

yeah, it's based on a book. I never read it but a lot of people find it helpful. I implemented a lot of it but still have to work on it regularly so you're correct, it's a practice and change takes a very long time and is hard. I have family members probably with undiagnosed NPD. keep your chin up

with Oracle owning virtualbox I'm always looking for alternatives so thanks for this!

I agree. It's not really enterprise scale but it helped me rapidly dev ideas locally especially before AWS/Az/GCP. Most of my solutions are hybrid with microservices and traditional VMs.

In this link you'll see a StackOverflow post where a developer of Vagrant helps describe where Vagrant sits and how it compares to docker. They're not the same. Vagrant is more like an orchestration layer with an easy way to get prebuilt images to rapidly develop against. Need a LDAP, grab it.

is that working for you or causing you grief? If it's unpleasant you might look at The Four Agreements

yes, sorry I didn't search it out. It was good. As I recall decent acting and plot and based around how that life actually goes.

did you watch that excellent French submarine movie? I forget the name but there aren't that many good sub films.

yeah, the old metrics for obsessive behavior seem to directly contradict any standard food safety and personal hygiene directives. I don't want to minimize people who scrub their hands raw but it's just a single metric that seems outdated.

Vagrant and a beefy laptop is a powerful tool I've used to create small mockups on my laptop. I love the other tools mentioned here but vagrant is the one that I rarely hear others using.

I love using vagrant. So easy to mock up a small environment on a beefy laptop.

well, I hear you, but I also don't want someone to pay a marketing firm $250k to recommend a ridiculous and bland name either.

excited to see this foot bridge be built. It looks beautiful and it's a dangerous intersection for walkers and bikers and South Beach has a lot of those. www.miamiherald.com/news/busines...

other than the cost of the casket, this seems like a great time for bundling a deal.

I feel like this is an off-shoot of the ultra-nicheification of everything. If I just come up with my own category then I won't have to compete and competing is hard(yet good for the enduser)
