AI has all but shut down the routes to proving yourself via grunt work in so many industries. All the best juniors I trained came in via that way. They didn’t have the social connections or money to position themselves for the success they proved more than capable of, AI is gutting social mobility

Structure of north Tyneside council- with 51 out of the possible 60 council seats currently held my Labour councillors, 8 by conservatives and 1 independent

This is my council currently. I honestly think it’s going to be a reform swing, and the only campaign Labour seem to be running is voting Green will be a spoilt vote.

It’s a very odd feeling of a break up I didn’t initiate or really want, but here nonetheless. The NE will be vilified as racist morons if Reform get in, but actually I think a huge wave of people are just hurt, let down and don’t know where to place that.

Labour canvassers knocked. Just an overwhelming sadness of explaining that I didn’t leave the party my family fought for- they left me.
My miner grandad was a local Labour councillor; trade unionism, community care and mutual aid are core tenants of my upbringing. Profound grief at the loss.

The issue is everyone want their local councillors to focus on community cohesion, crime and caring for the elderly, but Reform do that by scapegoating and othering our neighbours. This leaflet doesn’t mention that though, it could easily be a Labour or Greens leaflet and that’s scary.

How ridiculous of NASA spending billions of pounds to come up with the non-stick frying pan. In the weightlessness of space, the astronauts' sausages are just going to float right out of the pan. If anything, they should have been developing something to make them stick. J Boxbury, Norfolk

As a recovering catholic, Pope Leo gives me hope that ‘old school’ Catholicism, grounded in socio-economic based theology is making its fire and brimstone return.

No one ‘wants’ their child to have to be forever to jump through endless hoops, just for the mere accommodation of their needs.

In order to get chemotherapy you need a cancer diagnosis. In order for my child to access medical care, I need a neurodiversity diagnosis. It’s not that hard.

The new grid north by ordnance survey, showing a 24.6 degree change left wards.
This means Newcastle is, like, proper northern now.

Always knew Geordies, especially Northumbrians, were ‘high up’ latitudinally (55-N) but seeing it like this shows just how much higher.

We’re more northern than Dumfries, The Isle of Arran, Stranraeh, Quebec and parts of Denmark and Alaska.
Nee wonder it’s a bit nippy.

Oh just F off.
Emotional and violent outbursts, hurting themselves, being left out of friendship groups, falling behind, endless referrals back and forward to CAMHS, stuck in limbo on a right to choose pathway which is paused & may never start back up again or paying £1000’s in private medical fees.

Reform say people in Sunderland should be happy with the below inflation council tax increase.
Labour run Sunderland council.

Reform lost their 1 seat in Washington South in 2024, then gained back 1 seat in the Hetton 2025 by election. 1/ 75 seats.

He might mean Durham which is a different county

It seems huge, but 10 out of 12 NE councils have more than 25% of kids in poverty. 40% in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. (Dept hub presence)

So if 2/3rds of the NE population are ‘deprived’, let alone common-or-garden working class, statistically 52% is still depressingly disproportionate.

I wonder if this is broken down further with the area/ skill attributed to them? e.g policy, delivery, technology, design, analysis, operational.
My hunch is there’s massive disparities e.g. Policy is posh and ops is where the majority of the 18% are.

In fact is there even any design SCS’s?

Why am I not even surprised to see that the Harold Wilson years were more progressive than the Boris ones, over half a century later.

The government don't need to build every software system in-house, but it does need enough employees who are good enough at building software that they can tell good contracts from bad, and hold contractors accountable

Can we just celebrate working class joy please?

Can only speak about the working class men I know (ex mining area in north east of England)
Friendships are the backbone of boxing & football clubs, barber shops, working men’s clubs. Laughter thunders in these places with generations of friendships.

Can only assume it’s a rich white men problem?

Woah who would have thought that generational Labour voters want to vote for the ‘labour’ policies* we fought for.

*Communities over corporations, nationalisation of utilities, safeguards against wage/ rent exploitation and not witchhunting our neighbours because they happen to be brown.

UX works through social relationships. AI tools are erasing them. Stakeholders want to vibe code and have designers clean up after them afterwards. But rather than helping with velocity, there is just more noise and more work for everyone.

Work is a social relationship. We create things together. This is especially true of UX design.

AI's value proposition is freedom from relationships.

So when designers champion AI tools, we are not making ourselves layoff-proof. We are reinforcing a system that frames us as unnecessary friction.
