Three kids out with post-viral chest infections in my kiddo’s grade three cohort, two hospitalized. It was a brutal flu this year and brutal aftermath too.

A vase full of tulips and pussywillows, with one particularly showy red tulip with a yellow centre on display.
Good morning! My local tulips from the farmer’s market say, “Hey, go get some local tulips.”
I don’t but I bet it’s not related to US venture capital or government underinvestment.
Hahahaha I hated it so much
No amount of American venture capital funded vulture media can make me care that Canada Post loses money every year. Services cost money. It’s weird that we pretend a country this enormous could have mail service without significant government investment.
I've noticed a trend on this platform a lot where people don't do alt text for a lot of things (obviously) but they ESPECIALLY don't do it for graphs and charts. Y'know: the visual data that the general public MOST OFTEN need explained and contextualized? So that's kind of weird.
Well, you came to my feed, didn’t like my response, and demanded something different, so I think I’m not for you. And your feed is unhinged rhetorical centrist nonsense so you’re clearly not for me. So let’s not, shall we.
What would you accept as proof if not a political analysis that analyzed the impact of the cut and articulated its stated intent in Harper’s own words?
Truly the best
You should read The Longer I’m Prime Minister by Paul Wells. It was the intention of the cut.
Reducing a tax that corporations immediately snap up the benefits of is the exact play that Stephen Harper used when he cut the GST. No one saved a penny and the government coffers were starved. It’s an exhausting dance and I hate it.
And they won’t come down when the tax goes back up, either, and we will have a new high baseline to pay. Like happens every time.
Today was the first downtown crawl — meet a friend with a kid my kid likes and hit library - coffee shop - ice cream shop - park — of the season and I can feel the health benefits taking hold already.
The iced latte and the mint chocolate chip cone were medicinal.
I live at the top of the school zone and the wildest is seeing PARENTS WITH CHILDREN AT THE SCHOOL peel out of the lot and screech up the hill at top speed. Like. Is “try not to murder other children at your kid’s school” woke or something?
Man getting home from five weeks staying in pedestrian-only old city centres in France and then contending with the “school zone” on Summit with a baby in the back carrier and a distracted nine-year-old was a real “vacation is over” moment. Life in your hands every morning! Soon in the dark!
Our sector is such a garbage fire but we can keep making human connections to one another.
Fellow academics, a little sabbatical practice I’ve gotten into is shooting quick emails to folks when I find their articles — especially if they’re a couple years old or buried somewhere obscure — and letting them know how their work is shaping my thinking. The email exchanges have been lovely.
just admit you can't do anything and leave me alone about it! god!!!!!!!

For Kamloops-based @thompsonriversu.bsky.social folks, I'm giving a session in HL 271 on Friday, April 24th called A Skeptic's Guide to Generative AI. I'd love to see you there. tru.libcal.com/event/4008426
I also respond this way to simple workplace questions.

ARE THEY LITTLE WHALES
The disconnect between management and employees suddenly snaps into focus.
@brennacgray.bsky.social and @joelipsett.bsky.social look at the 2002 Disney adaptation of TUCK EVERLASTING.
The big change in the film is the focus on Winnie and Jesse's love story, as well as an updated time period (and no jailbreak!)
The Gilmore Girl of it all means an inappropriate and unsatisfying romance, there I said it.
Getting to chat with @biblioracle.bsky.social about writing and composition instruction for this episode on Community of Praxis was a real joy. We had this conversation *just* before AI hysteria descended; it's nice think about writing without having to run defence. I hugely admire John's thinking.
As a recovering friendless weird kid, it was wildly healing to arrive at the school gates to find a gaggle of my own weird kid’s friends hooting and hollering, so excited to see them back at school after our extended time away.
Important to never forget that the Minister in question is woefully, nay, comically unqualified even by normal ministerial standards.
