The bedside lamp or another housewife soon joined the idylliIc storybook nook of the cozy stove in betraying its owner. Instead of bringing light, it brought to light at loudspeaker volume everything she said in bed: The lamp was speaking in a loud, shrill voice, like a military officer. At first I thought I would just turn it off and stay safe and sound in the dark. But then I told myself that that wouldn't help. I rushed to see my friend, who owned a dream-interpretation manual, and I looked up "Lamp": the only definition in the book was "Serious illness." It was a big relief, but only for a moment, until I remembered that nowadays, to be safe, people were using "sickness" as a code word for "arrest." Again I felt desperately worried,
The nightmare objects in the dreams of those in 1930s Germany struck me as too mundane when I read Charlotte Beradt’s The Third Reich of Dreams—the lamp that tells one woman’s secrets, for instance.
It's easy to succumb to outrage fatigue. But this was four days ago. 2,000 killed. 1.2 million displaced. Entire villages demolished. A 40km 'buffer zone' (10% of Lebanon's territory) annexed. It's barely raised a resigned shrug, but it meets the criteria for war crime. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Giving public dollars to preschools that openly treat students with LGBTQ+ parents differently is state-backed discrimination. Plain and simple.
This case is part of a dangerous, escalating path that takes aim at LGBTQ+ children, parents, and entire family units. This must stop.

Ad seeking a graduate research assistant at the "Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce," seeking "a motivated graduate student intern to help investigate ways to integrate AI tools into our research processes." The successful candidate will "have experience across multiple LLM's and related AI tools."
Very on the nose that the institute hiring a grad intern to "integrate AI tools into our research processes," i.e. make future grad labor unnecessary, is funded by at least two separate billionaires, Chase bank, & a student loan collection agency. Its name? The GU Center on Education & the Workforce

Every time a Democrat mentions how to talk to "ordinary people" they mean "how I was told to talk by a handful of weirdo consultants in DC with gross fixations on throwing certain groups under the bus and who would not last a day in an ordinary job interacting with ordinary people."
You, old woman, blessed with blindness, can speak the language that tells us what only language can: how to see without pictures. Language alone protects us from the scariness of things with no names. Language alone is meditation.”
“For our sake and yours forget your name in the street; tell us what the world has been to you in the dark places and in the light. Don’t tell us what to believe, what to fear. Show us belief’s wide skirt and the stitch that unravels fear’s caul.

Chanda Prescott-Weinstein’s new book on a wooden kitchen country table. The cover reads: “The Edge of Space-Time Particles, Poetry, and the Cosmic Dream Boogie Chanda Prescod-Weinstein Los Angeles Tines Book Prize-winning author of The Disordered Cosmos”

A set sum and a guess of what will happen when the plant opens are accepted. One host,
I have two poems in the new issue of Midway Journal, one about corporate agreements, "Host Community"....

Future generations to suffer for our negligence: "A collapse would shift the tropical rainfall belt on which many millions of people rely to grow their food, plunge western Europe into extreme cold winters and summer droughts, and add 50-100cm to already rising sea levels around the Atlantic."

The rising sun hidden behind clouds of different thickness, creating mottled light. In front of the clouds are two bare trees (the picture is from Maine today in mid April). The sun light is gold, blue, and pearl.
Good morning 🌱
NAP Waking at dusk, the room Red with the last Light of summer, I leave Her sleeping and walk out On the screened porch. North, above the hissing Power lines, a sky studded With clouds, hailstones Ticking the tin awning, And the smell of a crushed rose Rising from the grass. I thought I would never age, but seeing Her face swollen from lack Of sleep, I saw my mother Once again crossing The corner lot, home From the cannery at dawn, A bag of plums and peaches Cradled in her arms, her face Lined with the night. I remember a rush Of sunlight flooding The open door, her clothes Dropped down the white hamper, And the cool, stiff covers Turned back. And then She slept, and I slept, And the day went On and on.

Why aren't students protesting?
🗣️ I just read an intriguing post about research using AI to predict intimate partner violence (IPV), including via radiological images and clinical notes.
While on the surface this seems well-intentioned, it gives me pause.
Something that I think is really important to recognize about people who persist in using the r-word is that someone as old as I am (50s) can remember teachers in my elementary school telling us not to use it. That was in the 1970s.
BREAKING: Hundreds of anti-genocide protestors have descended on the NYC offices of @schumer.senate.gov & @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social in protest against their voting for Trump’s war on Iran and support for Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and Gaza.

More villages in South Lebanon being detonated by Israel.
Israel is the one sharing these videos. They are proud of their war crimes.
Since the war on Iran began on Feb 28, Israel has launched near-daily attacks on Lebanon, Gaza, and the occupied West Bank.
In that time, Israel killed at least 107 people, permitted only 8% of medical evacuations, and admitted just 20% of aid trucks into Gaza.
