Our jGfV @gesvirologie.bsky.social "One Health and Zoonotic Viruses" workshop, was a great success. We had great presentations by young scientists from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Ghana, as well as a fantastic keynote by @marcelamueller.bsky.social .
Two great events, one location! 🧬 Right after the One Health Symposium, join the Zoonotic Virus Transmission & One Health workshop by Junge @gesvirologie.bsky.social
Open to students, postdocs & ECRs. Register by Aug 15: onehealth.g-f-v.org/registration...
Dear Infection Researchers and Colleagues,
With the registration deadline for this year's jGfV workshop, "One Health and Zoonotic Viruses," approaching, I would like to remind you about our meeting once again.
Register/submit your abstract by August 15.

Awesome! Congratulations, Tim!
I am deeply honored to receive the @eswinfluenza.bsky.social best young scientist award. Of course, this would not have been possible without the support of my mentors, collaboration partners, and colleagues. Thank you all; I am deeply grateful! Let's continue doing great science together!
Dear Infection Researchers, We are pleased to announce this year's jGfV "One Health and Zoonotic Viruses" workshop, which will take place in Berlin on October 15th and 16th. Please spread the word and visit our website for more information onehealth.g-f-v.org
We look forward to seeing you there.
Indeed great meeting. Happy that some of our friends from the US joined the meeting! @schountz.bsky.social @arthurwickenhagen.bsky.social

Everything is ready for the symposium "Molecular Determinants of Zoonotic Viruses and Beyond" in Freiburg. We are looking forward to a great program and speakers, and meeting friends.

Human MxA suppresses replication of HPAI isolated from mammals in vitro and in MxA-transgenic mice. But, H5N1 can evade via replacement of individual viral polymerase complex components.

However: reassortment with human-adapted influenza A viruses allows avian viruses to escape MxA restriction in vitro. Also, because the bovine Mx1 protein is antivirally active, continued circulation in cattle could lead to MxA adaptation.
Good news: H5N1 viruses isolated from mammals are inhibited by the human factor MxA.
We are pleased to be able to make our scientific contribution to the understanding of H5N1 viruses. In a study that will be published soon @Emerging infectious diseases, we investigated restriction of clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 viruses by the human innate immune factor MxA.

New post on some preliminary – but troubling – signals about the direction H5N1 might be taking: kucharski.substack.com/p/h5n1-influ...
(MB)

Do you want to become a virologist?
The @CVRinfo PhD programme is now recruiting for both UK and international applicants - rotate in two labs then choose a project tailored to your interests.
Also you get to live in Glasgow, which is fab.
