I can’t get over how this quartz looked like a theater with a rapt audience. You never knows what’s happening inside rocks, lol.

Back from AMMP, gonna take me a bit to recharge my batteries but it was a great conference :) Learned a lot, met cool people, hope to attend the next one next year. Was incredible also to go down and see the Dakota mummy in person including the parts still being worked on, truly amazing specimen.

happy #fossilfriday! bonus: this is diamantinasaurus, a titanosaur from late cretaceous australia. in 2025, it became the first sauropod to have fossilised gut contents described, providing evidence of bulk feeding and multi-level browsing behaviour

a fossil and figure of the fossil of the holotype of lyrarapax

happy #fossilfriday! this is lyrarapax, a radiodont from middle cambrian china. incredibly, the holotype preserves details of the animal’s nervous system, indicating that their raptorial frontal appendages were protocerebral, as was its labum

a figure from the paper showing the phylogenetic position of isodapedon, and just as interestingly, strongly suggesting that hyperodapedon is a paraphyletic assemblage, and that only the type species (h. gordoni) should be considered valid
