Two Christmas stockings, one covered with a design of teddy bears and one with a design of puppies. They are heavily decorated and embroidered.
A bit of seasonal cheer: these nostalgic and highly elaborate stockings I made for my kids. 🎄

A nice obituary for Alice, who was going to be recognized as one of The Post 50.
I hate that we now have to live without this phenomenal woman.

Morning.
A red, three headed hydra seen from the side. Each head has a red frill on either side and pointy teeth. He has six black and white striped arms and a long tail with a furry black and white ridge on top.
The hydra seen at an angle from the back. His back has a kind of patchwork, reptilian effect with a central patch covered in small black rhinestones.
The hydra seen from the front. You can really get a good view of the heads' slightly goofy expressions.
My latest sock toy is finally complete: three headed hydra, imagined by 7yo and made by me. Entirely made from old clothes and scraps. Most of his decorations came from a pair of gloves (the fingers are his legs). He has a pipe cleaner skeleton which makes him poseable.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!! Go gorge yourself on 🥮
Hsiao Bi-khim put out these “senior images” for the Mid-Autumn Festival
a flow-chart with 2 islands. "Do I need AI?" that flows into a final island saying "No"
ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants
For some odd reason I was obsessed with the books of this as a child and I still forget that motion study (the real dad's area of expertise) isn't something that everyone knows about.
I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA
10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)
Spent the day at an event on substance use research / harm reduction.
Shout out to the one person who was bold enough to stand up and ask why so many interventions are focused on the point of overdose, but not before then.
A store aisle with a huge box of giant plush skeletons, each taller than the average human, priced at £25 each.
Can't think of a single use for the giant plush skeleton but I WANT the giant plush skeleton.
I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.
Come work with me! New post open for a Design Associate to work on digital support for people with mental health and substance use issues, combining research from Scotland, Ireland, and N Ireland 👇

Living in a Scottish tenement flat means that every builder is like: "Your walls are too old to repair without causing more damage. Don't plaster, paint, breathe, or look at them. I will put new walls over the old walls. I will put in a drop ceiling. I will build you a tiny house inside your house."
When a parrot wanted to connect with a distant friend, a touchscreen showed a selection of other birds available online. The parrots learned to activate the screen, designed specially for them, by touching it gently with their tongues rather than pecking aggressively with their beaks. "We had 26 birds involved," said Hirskyj-Douglas. "They would use the system up to three hours a day, with each call lasting up to five minutes." The interactions ranged from preening and playing with toys to loud vocal exchanges. "When we went through the data, we found that most of these parrots had favourite friends," said Hirskyj-Douglas.
Pet parrots which typically live alone (whilst those in the wild live in large flocks) were given the technology to call each other. They would use it for up to three hours a day, and developed favourite friends 💔

A colourful stuffed ship. The body of the ship is made from yellow and orange boiled wool. It has portholes on the side. A smiling cloud person is riding on deck. Above waves a square, geometrically patterned sail in rainbow tones. In the middle of the sail is a smiling face.
The cloud people have a ship now which I made based on 7yo's design. The sail is definitely my favourite part.
I love that we are building up a collection of toys together which have all come from his imagination.
Absolutely crushing it, winning at life, remembering to order my mooncakes more than a week before Mid-Autumn Festival.

Welcome to Pride On Parade! This is a solidarity & fundraising project in support of young transgender people, initially in the UK because that's where I live :)
If you'd like to get involved in any way, or if you'd just like to show off your Pride-themed minis, that'd be awesome!
Outline here:
Two cloud characters in shades of white, blue, and gray. The one on the left is a golem type creature with bulky limbs. The one on the right is a peaceful smiling cloud with arms.
A back view of the cloud golem. He has a large puffy cloud shape diagonally across his back.
I made some little cloud people with 7yo based on his drawings. I'm quite happy with how the golem guy turned out!
Could it really be evil if it's convenient for me personally?
A family of stuffed toys, mostly made from socks. There is a big teal skeleton with a heart on its chest, a little skeleton with paracord limbs and embroidered bones, and a large green zombie doll. The zombie has pink brains coming out from one side and spiky green hair. It is wearing a striped blue and white top and black shorts, both of which have a ragged hem.
Is your child also an agent of darkness? I've been making a stuffed toy family of skeletons and zombies for 3yo, who lives for the spooky life. 💀
A tiny little zine made from a single sheet of A4 folded and snipped. There are 10 copies in a pile and one open to the intro: "If we bumped into each other at the coffee machine and you asked 'So, what’s content design all about, then?' this is what I’d tell you…"
Deploying my zine making skills in a professional context.
Zoom video view settings: Speaker, Gallery, Multi Speaker, dog walked into view.
UX dsigners claim to be "solving user problems" and "creating value" and "building with empathy" — and yet this feature still doesn't exist.
A cartoonish, smiling cloud with arms holds up a sky city under a glass dome. The city is filled with castles and turrets which are connected by ropes. A friendly rock golem saying "yay!" carries a boy on his shoulder in the air. Outside the dome, an unfriendly golem is attacking the dome with a large hammer. A figure inside is shooting arrows at him. A tiny figure wearing a crown is standing on the central castle.
Just for fun: I redrew 7yo's drawing of his sky castle.
Feel pretty pleased with it, although 7yo just came in to tell me the rock golem is supposed to be holding a helicopter, not a hammer. "Can't you tell?"
A smiling, cartoon snail with human legs and a big butt. Text on the image reads, "can't stop me".
I'm constantly drawing things where I think "wow this is the dumbest thing I've ever drawn", and then I draw an even more dumb thing.
Thank you! I just took my SVG and old sweatshirt over to the studio and they machine embroidered it for me. Probably other embroidery places would do this as well but it never occurred to me to ask!
It is addicting and now I want more.
An olive green sweatshirt, folded up. There is a large embroidered design on it of the words "GOOD BOYS" spelled out by light pink cartoon worms. A small cardboard tag has been attached that says "Mack and Rose".
I got my "good boys" worms embroidered on one of my old sweatshirts and I am so excited to be wearing my own art!
Embroidery done locally Glasgow studio Mack & Rose, their commitment to recycling old clothes is incredible.
love this new york times clip. they recently did a story about how sesame street's set has changed over the years, along with our urban politics.
