Shadowcat confronts Scalphunter during Mutant Massacre, X-men #211
Imagine Kitty Pryde in a 1986 where she’d already grown up and been nonstop training for combat since 1980.
All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought
I mean, come on guys. What’s the whip for? She doesn’t need it for fighting. She doesn’t use it for fighting. Y’all ain’t fooling nobody.
(Labeled not because it’s actually NSFW but because it’s a very mild spoiler)
X-men #131
Today in “a pervert’s guide to vintage Marvel”:
The Hellfire Club has usually been depicted as a powerful, secretive cabal disguised as a harmless BDSM dungeon club for billionaires. This is of course hella cool but the real feat is that they got this concept past the Comics Code Authority people.
Marvel really shoulda cashed in on the Stranger Things 80s craze by creating an AU that’s set in like 1986 but the twist is all the characters have been aging in real time since the start. So people like Spider-Man and original 5 X-Men act and feel like they’ve been at this shit for 25 years.
Everything negative people say about Arby’s is something they should be saying about Wendy’s, it’s like this website and Threads
Ah, too crazy for boys town, too much of a boy for crazy town.
“The disembodied Phoenix Force could look like anything, so let’s make it look like a naked Jean Grey.”
fantastic Four 286
X-men #98
FF 286
When the FF and Avengers free Jean Grey from the cocoon Phoenix put her in (FF #286), she’s wearing the dress Wolvie shredded in X-Men #98. And then they fly her to her parents house to recover her memories still wearing it. They don’t even give her shoes. (Today in “pervert’s guide to old Marvel”)
my conspiracy theory is wall street is doing everything it can to keep everything from collapsing until dems take the house and senate so they can blame the implosion on them
I know right? This stuff doesn’t even make sense as creepin’. Does this guy consider the Easter Bunny sexy ?
Jean Grey - mutant, telekinetic, telepath, X-Man, future Phoenix.. but also a Tasty Package of Goods(tm)
Is “I will watch tv shows that even I, a 12 year old kid, know are completely stupid, as long as there’s someone in the cast my age for me to crush on” still a thing?
A large portion of 80s sitcoms depended on this type of audience I think.
As others have pointed out, NASA is the best advertisement the left side of the political spectrum in America has for competent government that works. If you want to win elections functioning government needs good press and NASA is fantastic at that.
Elon sucks so much that he’s making people hate telescopes
All this discourse on Pope Leo, I just love how in many Romance languages his papal name literally means “Father Lion”.
A small child just asked me if dogs were smart and I said they were but not as smart as dolphins and he said “dolphins are equal to us, except they don’t pay taxes” so I think this kid is a libertarian
Professor X in “love” with teen Jean
Creepy-ass shit, yes, but it’s also ableist!
No matter how blatantly horny you assume silver age x-men writing was about Jean Grey, it’s worse.
That sounds about right. The even stranger part is this presumably isn’t actually a cartoon. It’s really them, just filtered or something to the point where it looks animated. Captain Britain can tell. He doesn’t say “that looks like Betsy” he says “that IS Betsy”, and goes to investigate
Probably but my interpretation involves it being a miniskirt. I was a lot younger and imaginative in 1987 than you were.
And how is it possible that nobody’s bothered to define a new “age” such that we are no longer considered to be in the same one as the early fucking 90s? In what other medium is the past, 35-40 years counted as all one thing?
One of the first of many, many, many panels starring Psylocke’s butt
The idea that “bronze age” and “dark age” (modern) comics are separated by, like, Watchmen or Crisis, doesn’t sit right with me. The real change was when they started selling multiple covers in sealed bags and everything suddenly started looking like this. (X-men 256, Jim Lee’s debut as penciler)
Elmer is the only human present here and he’s not sad, he’s realizing he’s probably next. (Grave is presumably Yosemite Sam’s)
this is how you know that the big accounts that you love are actually a business probably run by multiple people, we are looking down the barrel of a nuclear holocaust and they have found time and energy to post about wrestling action figures Brendel @brendelbored.bsky.... • 2m Was in a store today and walked by a bunch of pro wrestling action figures and one was Eric Bischoff, and I know no children are buying these things but I like to imagine a child sitting down watching WWE with his favorite character, action figure Eric Bischoff
No! It’s because I’m disassociating!
I hope you meant the one I just posted lol
A very clearly nude Johnny Storm canoodling with Alicia Masters
I distinctly recall seeing this panel - this exact panel - in 1987 and thinking “oh now those two are just straight up fuckin! his dick is physically inside her, right there”, and my dad glancing over my shoulder at what I was reading and coming to the same conclusion. FF vs X-Men #3
