well, yes - it’s a baffling position from the BMA
They will have accrued enormous debt and the nhs and uk govt will have invested huge resources in their training over this period but, seemingly this doesn’t matter. No wonder they are disgruntled. In despair, actually. The focus on pay rates, by both sides, is a red herring.
In the last 2 or 3 years of their 5-6 year time as a student they have access to very limited financial support - significantly less than the general student population.
are you aware that last year there was 50% unemployment for doctors completing their 2 years of foundation training? That not only are there very limited specialist training places (eg to become a gp) but also very limited employment opportunities?
I guess they’re all off to australia then. 50% post training unemployment last year - what a shocking waste.
Delighted to see these podcasts/ programmes make the @newyorkfestivals.bsky.social Radio Awards shortlists. I had an absolute blast making them: @folkonfoot.com Goblin Band in the City of London; The Song Detectorists for BBC R3 & @cockneyyiddish.bsky.social. Minuscule teams but a MIGHTY ensemble.
Absolutely delighted to announce that the Song Detectorists, featuring the @musicheritageplace.bsky.social project, has been shortlisted in the 2026 New York Festivals Radio Awards thanks to the amazingly talented Rhubarb Rhubarb producer @natalie-steed.bsky.social Congratulations Natalie!

husband had to get a workaround design be whereby they changed the flight details - very clear with him that he could not have just shown his uk passport - they would still have refused to allow him to board. Seems a bit weird that the airline can do this (ryanair)
you’re not allowed to return on your british one unless you have booked the flight separately. Was a big problem we discovered recently - we read of people WITH uk passports being refused entry by airline because they’d flown out on their eu passport
@lisaocarroll.bsky.social Was interested to read your article about dual citizens without uk passports being unaware of new rules etc but did you know that even if you travel with your uk passport done airlines won’t allow you to enter the uk. Eg if you fly out on your, say, german passport
of course!
Well, this looks fun ….
‘As a friend of mine said, misogyny is like water: stop up one leak, and it will spill out somewhere else. If a man is inclined to sexual abuse, he probably won’t lack chances.’

Wonder if he’ll also be celebrating Churchill’s fervent opposition to immigration controls and his passion for "the old tolerant and generous practice of free entry and asylum to which this country has so long adhered and from which it has so greatly gained".
Our latest episode, featuring Rowena Jackson and Philip Chatfield is out now. Find it on any podcast platform or at our website - search for Voices of British Ballet.
Really saddened to hear of the death of the legendary Paul Conroy at just 61 - one of the bravest, best and kindest of people and an astonishingly good photographer to boot.
Here is his last work for Byline Times.

Oh my giddy aunt. Neil Kinnock on music (lack of Brits knowledge, death of Neil SedAKKA - “Breaking Up is SO Hard to Do”; remembering the song at his wedding) on Broadcasting House this morning. Stupendous.

Never been happier to be a subscriber to London Centric. As the story says, "London Centric can spend the time piecing together these stories because we’re funded by subscribers willing to back proper investigative journalism and who want us to take on vested interests, and have real impact."
This was one of my absolute favourite episodes to make. What a woman. What an artist. What stories. Glorious. (Plus - the added bonus of Nancy Kerr popping in for a bit of a jam ...) #bagpuss #happybirthdaybagpuss #oldfatfurrysagpuss
