I will be at #CHI2026, happy to talk all things NLP and queer identity, and presenting my work on use of LLMs for support during break-ups. Say hello 😁

A screenshot of the miriam webster online thesaurus which offers as related words to "nurturing" the following: caring, giving, female, feminine, matronly, womanly, paternal, matriarchal, maternal, motherly, mother, womanlike, womanish
This feels unideal
I will say, the end of the world is coming with some fun linguistic highlights like 🤖 clanker 🤖 and sloppelganger.
Did you do this as a FOI request?
Every time I contemplate visiting my girlfriend in the states, some insane new anti-trans law is passed that makes me stop browsing flights.
@chi.acm.org hello, I was wondering if you could confirm if there was a page limit for poster final submissions, I couldn't find this info online (and the switch from 1 to 2 columns makes the original submission page limit no longer applicable).
Playing around with generating anti-feminist synthetic data,* and delighted by the following:
"Menfolk who play impish ladders in court should be made to fight for their gender identity so we don't get into more troubles!"
*I know, I know, synthetic data is poor quality, I'm exploring my options
Using people with disabilities as a gotcha is always gross
This reminds me of Geoffrey Hinton's ACL Keynote where he tried to argue that an unnamed person in his life with a disability "failing" a language understanding test was a sign we should accept that AI understands 🙃
A blonde white toddler sits for a school photo. She has her hands clasped in front of her. She has a blunt fringe and shoulder length hair, blue eyes, and a gummy smile. She's wearing a white short sleeved blouse and blue dungarees. She's smiling and looking slightly down from the camera.
She's still running things

tw: sexual violence
Another blog post on a fairly "heavy" topic, in which I discuss why I personally feel the use of algospeak (or obfuscations, as I call it in my paper on the phenomenon lnkd.in/eEd8fRan) is problematic when discussing sexual violence on social media:

Do any of you still have an X account? If so would you mind spending a couple of minutes requesting your data archive (in settings & privacy / your account )... If you too end up in an endless loop I would appreciate you letting me know!
Recently I spoke to journalist Megan Wallace about my research on people using LLMs for breakup advice (whitepaper coming soon, I promise...), and you can find their article on the topic here: www.service95.com/what-turning...
I have been on ADHD medication for about a year and it still DELIGHTS and BAFFLES me that I can listen to music with lyrics whilst I work now because I can just choose (?) to focus (?) on what I'm reading (???!)
Two people standing side by side face the camera smiling. On the right is Eddie, he/they, a white trans person with pink hair and a dark moustache. He is wearing a floral suit, a graduation gown, and is draped in the trans and Palestine flags. They are holding flowers. On the left is Bjoern, he/him, a white man, wearing a smart suit.
I'm officially a Doctor. I'm very proud of the work I did on the harms of language technologies, my thesis here: lnkd.in/eh6FqZkZ
It is a privilege to graduate, when not a single university still stands in Gaza.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, in particular @bjoernross.bsky.social.

you're telling me... you're telling me they don't automatically rename the file... that's just cruel
After a hiatus, I've returned to my blog to write about the ways LLM developers are currently trying to tackle mental health issues, and what I think might be better mxeddie.github.io/2025/10/27/m...
my attention was directed to this: resourcehub.bakermckenzie.com/en/resources... which warns caution and that use of cloud-hosted AI likely voids privilege.
*turns out... linguistics 😊
🔔 My paper w/ @ninamarkl.bsky.social and @bjoernross.bsky.social is out: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

I'm just a girlboy, standing in front of Google, asking it to know that when I say xyz in Gaelic I mean (Scottish) Gaelic and not Irish (Gaelic)
Nothing worse than discovering a whole new genre of Python error
