Woke up because of an idea, had to write it down Obsidian, opened bsky for some research, saw this post, saw checked the portfolio ... fantastic! Especially the works that show the progress and painting technique (forest scene with small bears). Very inspiring stuff.

two fantasy illustrations side by side:
The Night Washer - a painting depicting a dangerous-looking old woman with long dark hair, long pointy nose, yellow glowing eyes and a wicked smirk. She is up to her thighs in river water, washing a bloodied sheet of linen. The scene is in darkness, with a strip of lighting illuminating her only partially. The surface of the water is covered in duckweed and there are ravens flying around the figure. The figure has metal coin jewelry woven into her wild, dark hair that falls down her back and into the water like a thick blanket. There is a full moon visible in the reflection of the water.
The text at the bottom reads: “Charlie Newt Borovský @EyeOfTheNewt” and “© Crow&Crown 2026”.

The Gryndylow Coven:
Peg Powler:
Painterly digital illustration of a cackling hag emerging from a pond. She is chubby, with dark green skin, pointy teeth and wild curly hair. There are water lilies in the duckweed covered water around her and she holds a jar filled with human fingers and eyes. Her expression is cute but scary as she seems to be cackling, clutching the jar to her chest. On her head, there is a large spiky leaf fashioned into a hat.
Nelly Longarms:
She is lanky, with long clawed arms, sitting on a river rock and folding her arms under her chin in a cutesy expression. Her arms and legs are covered in fish scales and on her head there is a pointed headdress resembling horns. Her face is framed with shiny coins and she wears an extravagant leather armor and long flowy skirt with tassels and ribbons hanging down.
Peg Powler:
She is tall, clothed in algae and seaweed, with blood covering her chin and dripping down her chest. The hair from her head flows down and turns into algae as it cascades over her shoulders. There are clam shells hanging down her attire like jewelry and her algae skirt is full, sinking down into the water she stands in. The surface is stained with the same blood we can see on her face and hand.

digital illustration showing a scarecrow construct tipping his hat as he's about to leave into a dry corn field, from which ghosts of farm people are emerging. There is a banjo at his back and the large crescent moon has a wicked face on it. 1. A mossy waterfall in a forest with beads hanging from branches and votive trees at the sides
2. A sunlit water shrine with a small waterfall in the background. There are offerings on the stones in the foreground
column 2:
3. A sunrise river with birds at the banks and fog in the background.
4.A dark lake with a small orange moon above it. There are small boats tied at the edge in the foreground and the trees are bare.
5. A couple small thermal pools with steam rising from them with a stone formation and a forest in the background.
column 3:
6. A sunlit river with lush trees at the sides and some seaweed at the surface.
7. A gloomy abandoned village submerged halfway in waters which spill from a dam in the distance. The scene is overlooked by a large mountain in the background and birds nest on the destroyed roofs as debris floats below.

An assembly of digitally painted portraits depicting:
Row 1:
1. A sick looking man in proper yet threadbare clothing wringing out his hands in a bloodied handkerchief as he stares at the viewer, frowning, with glazed over eyes like ones of a corpse. His hair is light brown and messily pulled into a ponytail. He stands on dark background and there is a thin golden oval frame enclosing his portrait
2. A sad looking young man with a long hooked nose and large eyes with bags under them. His hair is dark and windswept reaching down to his chin. He is well dressed in a victorian attire with a yellow cravat and the background he stands in front of is yellow as well. The portrait is oval shaped and lays on a dark background.
3. A white haired stern looking woman holding a gold rectangular puzzle box in her hands. She is depicted in darkness and the portrait is framed by a neutral brown oval.
Row 2:
4. A white haired black woman in a fancy Victorian green jacket embellished with floral embroidery. She has pearl earrings on and reflective eyes both of which glint in the light. The background is dark but there is an oval frame made out of thorned branches enclosing her.
5. A dark haired woman with tired features holds a hand up to her eye and looks up concerned. There is a drop of blood coming from her nose and her eyes are the darkest spot on the painting. The frame is oval and dark.
6. A young scared looking maid looks to her side as she is enveloped by large leathery bat wings. There is a glint of an eye in the darkness behind her and the oval frame the painting is in is engraved with bark like motifs with stylised eyes set into the grain.

A good reason to go with small LLMs. #ChatGPT vs. #Lumo. The referee was #Claude ...
What happened. I gave ChatGPT and Lumo the same text in German. The task was a translation to English. Lumo remained true to my "style" while ChatGPT gave a polished result without understanding the context fully.

Ink/pencil on paper is still unmatched - real craftsmanship. Reminds me a bit of the original Legends of Mana artworks from the late 1990s.

Hmmm ... looks some kind generic and over the edge, especially that one with crosshatch patches. I guess crosshatching brush set by @ittaimanero.bsky.social would make a great job here.

It would be interesting to see how a version with pencil + ink on real paper would look like.

Wrong meta level. Art is within the product and process design itself. Thus design is beyond by design. Especially, if it - on top - generates value, monetary and spiritual one. The AISlop argument is hilarious. Results made by that are just what comes after the equal sign of a math formula.

It's not art. It's product design. Weights more because it goes beyond.

Yeah, kids not being able to hand write because typing, but then they can’t touch-type because tablets or read critically because of chatgpt or solve problems because of openai or read images because of midjourney does make me concerned about the future a little

DocMcFly ➜ Realistic Voxel Grass Tutorial

Moving completely to @neocities.org. I've updated several sites and put my #voxelart tutorial for voxel grass online after several years. It may contain grammatical errors like my other topics but it is 100% human made and 100% free from GenAI slop.

For 35 years I am a passionate gamer. I often ask myself, why do even indies aim for an AA/AAA production with big audiovisual bang and a ton of content? Man, just invest your resources in a unique characters, a catching story and interesting gameplay. The success will come by itself.

what would have the indie devs in this position done a mere 3-4 years ago?

The truth is - not only in gamedev - AI provides a productivity gain per employee. So fewer devs are necessary to do the job. Crunchtime and overtime remain, while the numbers are dwindling. They will suck out the system until the last drop of human sweat. Only the customers have a leverage here.

They can't say it out loud because the answer to how AI is making games faster/better to develop is "we don't have to pay as many wages."

But Anna, "AI is just making workers more productive." So are those workers getting a raise? No. Are they continuing to staff up? No.

Are the game worse? Yes.

We would like to address questions regarding the use of AI in Crimson Desert.

During development, some 2D visual props were created as part of early-stage iteration using experimental AI generative tools. These assets helped us rapidly explore tone and atmosphere in the earlier phases of production. However, our intention has always been for any such assets to be replaced, following final work and review by our art and development teams, with work that aligned with our quality standards and creative direction.

Following reports from our community, we have identified that some of these assets were unintentionally included in the final release. This is not in line with our internal standards, and we take full responsibility for it.

We also acknowledge that we should have clearly disclosed our use of AI. While these tools were primarily used during early production, with the expectation that these assets would be replaced prior to release, we recognize that this does not excuse the lack of transparency.

We sincerely apologize for these oversights.

We are currently conducting a comprehensive audit of all in-game assets and are taking steps to replace any affected content. Updated assets will be rolled out in upcoming patches. In parallel, we are reviewing and strengthening our internal processes to ensure greater transparency and consistency in how we communicate with players moving forward.

Turn the story into your own advantage. If you have the original artworks or access to these artworks and the artists. Make an artbook to that game incl. designer notes, creative dev log and interviews. Make an additional product of it and use that negative Steam review as publicity.
