One thing that struck me is that these guys are allegedly professionals, preying on authors whose egos need to be fanned, but also overestimate how much academics/writers can pay out of their pocket for book promotion.

Warning to all book authors: the 'book club' invitation scam is the new elaborate version of the prince of Nigeria scheme. I just got one too.

Look out for the red flags:
