The supply of these T20 axles is also no where near infinite, so it is not clear how many will actually make their way to Ottawa and how large of an impact this will have as a result.
Our source tells us that this should be seen as a shortcut to get more trains back in service more quickly, rather than an actual solution to the existing problems. Replacing an axle is quicker than replacing CBA units, so really a time saving exercise for the most part.
Swapping an axle (2 CBA at a time) will be a lot faster than swapping CBAs.
Metrolinx is sending some axles to Ottawa to help restore full O-Train Line 1 service. No doubt coming from the Finch West LRT that use the same trains. Important to note that the Toronto axles are T20 versions of the same axle used here. Same bearings. A minor modification to mitigate spline wear.
The REM's next branch, heading west to Anse-à-l'Orme is planned to open on Monday, May 18th! With 14km of new track, mostly elevated, it promises to revolutionize transit in the west of the island of Montreal, while providing amazing views of the surrounding area. Full details below.

LRV 1126 re-entered service last night, and served this morning's AM Peak Period. Welcome back! This brings us to 23 trains spotted in service in the last 7 days!
Rail Fans Canada has published its brief to ALTO’s public consultation.
Our view is simple: Canada should build dedicated high-speed rail in the Québec–Toronto corridor, and do it right.

New speed improvements and transit priority are speeding up Toronto’s Line 5 Eglinton. I just did the end-to-end trip in 44.5 mins, down from 55 mins on opening day.
- that’s ~19% faster
- we had to wait for a few lights
- opportunity to reduce times even more w/dynamic TSP
Fare paid zones, no this is new from the O-Train.
There are already severa stations like this. You don’t need to double tap. If you do it on a bus it would refuse saying it was too close to the initial tap, but since the second tap isn’t required then not an issue.
Rail Fans Canada takes you trackside for an in-depth update on the O-Train Stage 2 Eastern Extension. Get a close-up look at station design and layout, and what’s coming next as this vital light rail extension moves closer to completion.

Please note, there will not be a new video releasing tomorrow (Monday). Aiming to have a new video for Tuesday/Wednesday this week. Thank you for your understanding.
Canadians support high-speed rail.
A March 2026 survey from Abacus Data found 62% support for building it, versus 18% opposition.
Even a survey commissioned by opponents still shows majority support.

O-Train Line 1 is open for business.
While there was some legitimate speculation and fear it might have closed as of tomorrow (Saturday), this will not be the case.

We understand there are ongoing technical concerns related to wheel bearings & axle components. While no official announcement has been made, these issues are being closely monitored & could influence near-term service decisions. We will continue to follow and will update as info becomes available.
Over the past 2 months, O-Train Line 1 has generally met its target of 15 trains in service during peak periods. However, over the past week, service levels have declined, with between 12-14 trains operating during AM and PM peaks. This reduction may impact frequency & overall capacity for riders.
Are they still testing trains in the East on the O-Trains Stage 2 extension? Yes they are!!! If you spot a train east of Blair, please share it on our tracker by visiting tracker.railfans.ca
