UCI TWC in HK this weekend: men's keirin is Saturday, women's is Sunday. Good to see a full two-session day on Sunday for the women's event. Even those doing reps will get a good couple of hours to recover before semis - unlike other recent UCI events. www.tissottiming.com/2026/ctrwcii...

Provisional entry lists for keirin at UCI Track World Cup this weekend in Hong Kong are stacked! 55 men & 42 women listed as starters, not to mention substitutes.
Notable absentees as things stand: Ryan & Rudyk from the men's; Friedrich, Lysenko & Gros from the women's.
It's now two full calendar years since the last 'News' item was posted on the DerbyWheel website. (But the site isn't totally dead: we see evidence of a change 55 days ago.)
Betting turnover in Japanese keirin was US$ 9.77 billion - up 16.6% in 2025 compared to 2024 - and is now almost 2.5x what it was 10 years ago. (via MoreCadence)

So it turns out the schedule posted on the official website for the Asian Championships was wrong. Men's and women's elite keirin was actually today. Sorry for any confusion we caused. They don't make it easy.
Lots of fun photos popping up on Instagram today from our foreign keirin trainees. They all seem to be loving their new toys; but maybe not so much enthusiasm for the classroom sessions? We listed the accounts to follow: globalkeirin.com/2026/03/inte...
Former DerbyWheel CEO James Pope interviewed at length by Ned Boulting for the Never Strays Far podcast - but no direct mention of DW or keirin whatsoever.

The 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships begin this week in Tagaytay, Philippines - but with a busy programme including junior & para events, we'll have to wait until next Monday (29th) for the men's and women's keirin competitions. Event website: asiantrackchampionships2026.com
When Pist6, Japan's UCI-style keirin competition went on hiatus last September, the suspension was 'planned' to end in March 2026. Well, here we are in mid March: it has not resumed, and its schedule remains empty.
Plans announced for a government-backed Cycling League Of India: a road competition for 8 IPL-style franchises of 10 riders, building on success of recent Pune Grand Tour. Why mention it? Because Escape Collective says it is 'not expected to be under the UCI's jurisdiction'. 🤨
A male keirin trainee has died following an accident at the Japan Keirin Training School. The unnamed rider is reported to have crashed during training on March 6. He was treated in hospital, but died in the early hours of March 13. www.keirin-autorace.or.jp/NEWS/2026031...
It wasn't the final anyone expected, and it surely wasn't the strategy she had planned - but Alessia McCaig went all-in with over two laps left, and had just about enough to hold off Lysenko for gold in Perth. globalkeirin.com/2026/03/mcca...
Great ride from Alessia McCaig 🇦🇺 from waaaaaaaay out to win the women's keirin in Perth. Gaps were opening before the pacer left the track: she found herself with six lengths on Lysenko, and decided to go all-in. Centimetres in it by the end, but enough for gold! 🥇
Awang isn't ruling out a run at LA28 Olympics! 'I need permission from my wife first. This is the last World Cup for me, then I just want to focus on the Commonwealth & Asian Games. I could do World Champs after that. But beyond that, I do not know.' www.nst.com.my/sports/cycli...
Big names fall in the women's keirin semis at Perth: Sato 🇯🇵 , Andrews 🇳🇿 & Friedrich 🇩🇪 all fail to make the final!
In sprint today: it was 🥇 Yuan 🥈 Andrews 🥉 Friedrich. 🌈 Sato qualified fastest, but failed to medal, losing narrowly twice. Lysenko couldn't get beyond the quarters.
First round is 11:14am local (middle of the night, UK). Final at 18:45 local (10:45, UK)
Start lists are in for Sunday's women's keirin in Perth: and right from the first heat, it's shaping up to be a cracking contest. Three races of 6 or 7, with the first two going straight to the semis, reps for the rest.

We found video of Awang's first round repechage win: this was pretty spectacular too! globalkeirin.com/race/ef506d9...
Not bad for a man on the verge of retirement. Amazing Awang wins in Perth. globalkeirin.com/2026/03/amaz...
Whaaat? The tv graphics gave it to Richardson, but the win goes to AWANG! Malaysia will be going mad right now.

Men's final at Perth in about 1h30 will be: Hoffman & Ryan 🇦🇺 , Richardson 🇬🇧 , Dornbach 🇩🇪 , Yakovlev 🇮🇱 and Awang 🇲🇾 . Tasty. Richo looked at ease in his semi. Great to see Awang make it all the way.
First round men's keirin at Perth went broadly as expected. Early finishes for Nulens and Szalontay, relegated in reps, and a double DNF for Ichida & Pettersen.
Semi final startlists are in: the second one looks super spicy.
Start lists for Saturday's Track World Cup men's keirin in Perth: 3 heats of 7, first 2 in each go through. The field isn't stacked, with only 1/3 of the UCI top 50 attending: but the final will be juicy. Hoffman goes in heat 1, Richardson in heat 2, Awang in heat 3 globalkeirin.com/event/4162d0...
Mina Sato reposts MoreCadence's Instagram reel announcing the international stars set to compete in Japan later this year, and comments (in English): I look forward to seeing you soon in 🇯🇵 . Sounds like a challenge?! 🤞
