Was great to participate in the launch of Conserva Aves in Panama! Here's my chat with Karla Aparicio who explains the importance of one of the sites which will be protected for birds. I'm proud that Birds Canada is part of this conservation effort! www.linkedin.com/posts/birdsc...
Gripping video of the last 2 Slender-billed Curlews at www.rarebirdalert.co.uk/v2/Content/S.... I couldn't afford to join some mates who did a trip to Morocco to see them in 1992, 2 years before they disappeared. And last week, we declared the species extinct in our update to the IUCN Red List 😢
Thanks for sharing!
Imagine stumbling upon Black Swifts - one of Canada's rarest species - high on a mountain, above the clouds. BC Projects Coordinator Rémi Torrenta shares this story, along with Black Swift facts and monitoring season updates on the latest Warblers Podcast.
Laysan Albatross floats on the water. It is a large mostly white seabird with a brown back, pink bill, and hazy dark eyeshadow.
Cassin's Auklet strikes a pose on the water. This tiny grey bird has a uniquely shaped sharp bill and white check above the eye.
A Pink-footed Shearwater takes off from the water after resting on a kelp bed. It is mostly grey and white with a pink bill.
A Black-footed Albatross fly by. This large seabird is mostly grey-brown with a white vent, rump, and pale face.
@jodyallair.bsky.social and I just returned from leading one of our most memorable pelagic boat trips ever for Eagle-Eye Tours, out of Tofino, BC. The Laysan Albatross stole the show and hung around so long that we literally had to tear ourselves away from it! #birds #pelagic #albatross #seabirds

Found this out-of-range California Tortoiseshell in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. They’re typically found in southern BC and down into the western US. This summer we’re seeing an unprecedented irruption of this species north and east into Alberta, Saskatchewan and as far east as Ontario.

Prairie with distant storms
The short-grass prairie region SE of Drumheller put on a spectacular show today. The skies were moody & the songbirds were out in full song. I had great views of Sprague’s Pipit, Horned Lark, Lark Bunting and of course the star of the day…our 2025 Avian Ambassador the Chestnut-collared Longspur.
Today I am participating in the Birds Canada Birdathon here in southern Alberta to help raise $ to support bird conservation in Canada. A fun highlight so far was a nesting Common Goldeneye.
