We had fun with Mass. Maritime Academy and DCAMM celebrating the first wide-scale geothermal heating & cooling system at a MA public campus. The project will slash MMA’s energy costs long-term, make learning spaces comfortable year-round, and cut pollution on campus and in the community.

Massachusetts continues to take steps to tackle high energy costs head-on. We need more energy to lower bills and meet rising demand. Governor Healey’s executive order will secure 10 gigawatts of energy resources by 2035. DOER is getting after it!

$6.6 million in Green Communities Competitive grants will help 43 cities and towns with local projects that lower energy use and costs in municipal operations. These grants will help the cities and towns save more than $580,000 each year in energy costs.

Congratulations to the 43 Green Communities receiving grants that together total nearly $7 M. Since 2010, DOER has awarded $205 M to communities across Mass., helping reduce municipal energy costs by more than $30 M each year!

It’s an exciting day for MA’s energy future! This clean, affordable, consistent baseload power will provide nearly 20% of our total electricity and $3.8 billion in economic benefits, help with monthly electric bills, make our grid more reliable, and improve public health.

More than 50% of a home’s energy use is heating & cooling. New homes built to MA’s stretch energy codes require LESS ENERGY to stay warm or cool. Existing homes can power up energy performance and lower costs with the Mass Save programs or programs offered by municipal providers.

In 2025, DOER launched two new clean energy grant programs. The Low-Income Services Solar Program (LISSP) provides grant funding for solar for non-profits, and the $47 million Advancing Massachusetts Power (AMP) grant program will help equitably deploy safe energy storage systems across Massachusetts.

In 2025 (through November), DOER's MOR-EV program awarded 16,712 rebates for a total of $65,260,500. MOR-EV makes electric vehicles more affordable for residents, businesses, and non-profits.

In 2025, DOER launched two new interactive dashboards to visualize the monthly data we collect on retail electric customer choice and municipal aggregations.

DOER awarded nearly $10 million in grants in 2025 to "Lead by Example" and lessen the Commonwealth's environmental impacts

DOER developed and launched new programs in 2025. This included the DIG Program (Decarbonization Implementation Grant), assisting 30 state fleets develop electrification roadmaps, and providing $15 million for HVAC training programs at 13 community colleges.

The Green Communities + Leading by Example Summit brought together more than 200 municipal and state agency staff, community leaders, clean energy and climate practitioners, and committee members to learn, collaborate, and celebrate successes

DOER partners with state entities to reduce environmental impacts of state government. In 2025, we awarded nearly $10 million in grants, developed and launched new programs, and brought 200+ staff and volunteers together at the Green Communities + Leading by Example Summit.

This year, DOER rolled out an updated solar incentive program after extensive review and stakeholder engagement. SMART 3.0 will provide ratepayers an expected $300 million in benefits in its first year alone and bring new, low-cost energy into MA.

Earlier this year, Governor Healey called on the electric utilities to offer a reduced rate for heat pump households. DOER filed a petition that called for the electric utilities to offer winter heat pump rates so residents can enjoy lower costs for modern, clean heating.
