Here are two things you ought to know about Nebraska’s upcoming primary:

- Because I’m an Independent, I won’t appear on your primary ballot. I’ll be on your ballot in November. Please don’t waste your vote writing me in!

I will go to Washington and fight to make sure the federal government respects what Nebraska voters decided. Patients and caregivers are suffering. I will stop the obstruction.

Pete Ricketts spent $500,000 on ads lying about medical marijuana. He said it would "kill your kids." He lobbied against legislation that would have properly regulated it. He has done everything in his power to obstruct what Nebraska voters demanded.

Patients with chronic pain. Veterans dealing with PTSD. Families watching a loved one fight cancer. These are the people who voted. These are the people still waiting.

Today is 4/20. All jokes aside, it's a good day to talk about something 71% of Nebraskans already decided.

Medical marijuana won. Overwhelmingly. That's not a close call. That's a mandate from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike. Rural Nebraska and urban Nebraska.

I talk to people all over Nebraska who are working harder than their parents ever did and have less to show for it. That's not laziness. That's a system that was deliberately tilted against them.

This is what we should be spending our tax dollars on. Not handouts to corporations or endless wars overseas. Career and Technical Education will always have my full support, from high school shop classes and DECA to apprenticeship programs and specialized institutions.

Now, a new Agriculture Technology Center has broke ground in Beatrice, giving students the opportunity to obtain in demand skills and knowledge IN their community.

Last summer I visited SCC’s Welding Technology Center and learned about the incredible growth the college is having and the investments it’s making in our state.

I want a complete BAN on Congressional Stock trading. Pete Ricketts does not. He introduced a show bill that still allows members of Congress to sell stock as long as they give 7 to 14 days’ notice even though selling stocks is half the problem.

Some sold their holdings in hotel chains (because hotels would obviously lose a lot of money in the coming months). Others invested in health science companies and manufacturers of personal protective equipment.

Some representatives made MILLIONS from these stock trades.

Lawmakers made hundreds of stock transactions during pandemic, watchdog finds The nonprofit is calling for laws that would ban lawmakers from making individual stock trades.

In late Jan. 2020, many members of Congress received sensitive briefings about a coming pandemic (remember, the public wasn't overly alarmed yet).

So what happened? With this privileged information, some of these Reps bought and sold relevant stock.

Members of Congress should be PROHIBITED from trading stock. Why?

Because our representatives attend nonpublic hearings, learning privileged information about the direction of government long before we the public do. Here's an example that makes my blood boil:

And while people like Pieper suffer, billionaires like Ricketts & the special interests he works for have had their taxes cut. Ricketts made $10 million in the stock market in ONE MONTH last year. Working people need tax cuts and healthcare But we’ll never get it with people like Ricketts in office.

Pieper eventually found treatment in Scottsbluff, which, with about 14,000 residents, is the biggest city in the rural Panhandle region of western Nebraska. The 1 1/2-hour drive will triple his time on the road to more than nine hours each week.

They counted on a rural dialysis unit to keep them alive. Then it closed A hospital in Nebraska shut down the only dialysis unit for miles, upending lives. That's despite a new federal program that gave the state more than $200 million to improve rural health care access.

“That February morning was one of his last dialysis sessions there before the hospital shuttered the service at the end of March.

"I guess I'll just bloat up and die in a month," Pieper remembered thinking when he learned the center was closing, eliminating the only option near his home.”

Pete Ricketts is the poster child of this dirty system. A billionaire who bought his Senate seat and then voted to gut rural hospitals so he and his billionaire donors could get a tax cut.

This is how the cycle works. Billionaires invest in politicians. Politicians deliver for billionaires. You and I get screwed.
