Closest I had to this was when I went back to uni for my masters, and the sample essay they gave us as a model of what a high-quality, properly referenced essay looked like was one of my own from undergraduate.

Exercising. Going for a run, or to the gym. It pushes the problem into the back of my brain, where my subconscious can noodle away at it in the meantime.
“We are the only country that does mail in voting.”
…what? The UK and Canada, at least, have postal voting.
Highest I’ve seen so far is 80. Which is still 80 too many, obviously.

So glad that the US have come in and replaced an unelected, illegitimate administration with… an unelected, illegitimate administration.
The fact that you apparently can’t bring yourself to name the aggressive party in this incident- the United States- speaks volumes. If you let not even willing to address them by name here, how will you ever stand up to them if and when the time comes?
My final MA portfolio, I write “iron railings flacked with rust” (instead of “flecked”) in a dystopian story, and the marker praised my “unique approach to language.”
I’ve always been so focussed on the beard; I never noticed the beard before!
New Year’s resolution: ditching Twitter once and for all. What’s life like over here?
The irony of people constantly complaining about that scene is that it’s actually one of the best scenes in the whole story, in my opinion.
Why is Rogue the only one who’s bum forward?
Sorry, but you’re wrong; real fans know that each colour has a different attribute. Only the red is hot, while blue is cold, purple is sleep, yellow is electric, and so on.
They should switch to sets of 2- & 3-parters, mostly self-contained, with a “finale” every couple of years as the climax of the companion’s character arc. Focus more on character-led storylines over the “mystery of the season,” which doesn’t really work with the smaller episode count.
Reminds me of the story that they were once filming an episode of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in a quarry, heard a commotion nearby, & discovered another group filming an episode of Doctor Who nearby at the same time (or possibly vice versa?)
Ok, but imagine the Seal Door opens, and instead of Omega, it’s Sutekh. Because you can’t kill death, only delay it. Death is inevitable, and patient, and always waiting.
I was saying this to a friend yesterday. In terms of regenerations, we’re now as far from Tennant as Tennant was from Baker.
“What do I do now?” she asks.
“The only thing you can do; You go forward,” says the therapist, as the camera slowly pans round to reveal Carol Anne Ford. “Despite the regrets, the tears, the anxieties. You go forward with your beliefs.”
Maybe not as a big role, but a cameo. Like, Ruby fails to convince everyone that Poppy was real, & he goes off travelling with Belinda. And then it’s 6 months later, & Ruby is telling her therapist about how she’s struggling being the only one who remembers this child who supposedly never existed
I don’t have a problem with it, but I guess the difference is that those were all mostly one-off characters or from spin-offs (I’m not even sure where Children of Earth falls in terms of being cannon or not), whereas Rose is still one of the most iconic & significant characters in the show’s history
I know all the Doctor’s numbers, but with the inclusion of War & Fugitive it’s definitely now easier at times to refer to them either by the actor’s last name (except for Tennant, obviously) or by some other signifier like season number or story title.
I wonder if she was in the original ending, but got written out when they changed it to accommodate the regeneration scene?
It’s not that we should always trust authority; it’s that we should be wary of populist figures who tell us what we want to hear.
Ok, but the whole point is that Conrad’s distrust isn’t real: he’s just a grifter. He knows that aliens are real- he’s seen the Shreek, the TARDIS, the Doctor etc- but he’s using other people’s legitimate doubts & skepticism for money & fame.
I’ve been thinking similar for a while. So many people online seem unhappy with the show, & I keep wanting to encourage them to try some fan fiction etc. Not only is it a healthier outlet for their frustration, but they might hit on an idea that they could then develop into something of their own.
Overall, though, my feelings towards RTD2 can be summed up with this:
While there are elements I enjoyed, it definitely feels like they radically changed the ending from what was originally planned (15 & Belinda continue on, Ruby is the only one who remembers Poppy). The reveal at the end has potential, but they need to be very careful how they do it.
#doctorwho fans to RTD right now:
The fact that even RTD is aware that everyone is tired of it (“I’m surprised it wasn’t the other guy”) but he’s *still* doing it is so frustrating. Acknowledging the problem isn’t the same as actually addressing it…
