No rest for the trade economists. Not even while on research travel.
Gave an interview Saturday with the Pat Kenny Show @newstalkfm.bsky.social on the impact of Iran for global energy markets and countries’ proposed short-term fixes.

Help candidates on the market by signing up for a mock interview. It doesn't cost you much time, but it can help candidates tremendously!
The day after Budget Day 2026 started with an interview with BBC NI’s Good Morning Ulster and will end with a UCD Econ alumni & staff reunion at @isweconomics.bsky.social’s post-budget analysis tonight @mueconomics.bsky.social @maynoothuniversity.ie. #economicsfun

Looking forward to taking part in ISWE’s post-budget analysis this year. 8 October at 5:30pm in Maynooth.
Very grateful to my co-organizers
@barratree.bsky.social, Enda Hargaden, & Tara McIndoe-Calder, our host @centralbankireland.bsky.social for two fantastic days, and @ucddublin.bsky.social School of Economics for the support to run the workshop.
The keynote by @dinapomeranz.bsky.social on Day 2 presented the room with lots of food for thought — on the difficulties of raising tax revenue in with low state capacity, the impact of audit “threats” and ghost firms, and that profit shifting is an issue across all countries.
The panel on how research(ers!) can shape and support public policy included practicable advice by Robert Kelly (CBI), Jonathan Cribb (IFS), Rowena Dwyer (D/FHERIS), & @dinapomeranz.bsky.social.
Another fantastic Irish Public Economics Workshop concluded yesterday. From Profit Shifting to Lobbying and Corruption to Resilience and Behavioral Responses, the program of 20 papers covered the full field of public finance in front of over 40 attendees.
📣Looking forward to the 2nd Irish Public Economics Workshop on 1-2 Sept 2025. 20 highly relevant papers, a policy discussion on how researchers can help shape and support policy, and keynote by @dinapomeranz.bsky.social.

Very interesting to talk trade on @rteradio1.bsky.social Drivetime tonight — especially with the threat of 50% Trump tariffs on EU imports from June 1. I'd rather be an economist and comment than be a policymaker most weeks! But especially this week! @ucddublin.bsky.social
The Chicago Pope implies the existence of a New Keynesian Pope and a Behavioral Pope
Full house, sharp insights, & lively discussion with @streckernm.bsky.social & Alan de Bromhead about “Shamrocks & Sledgehammers: Ireland in the Crossfire of Trump’s Trade War”. And 2x thanks to the students for the smart ?s @ucddublin.bsky.social @rethink-gsc.bsky.social @skatteforsk.bsky.social

Big thanks to Alan de Bromhead and Ron Davies for helping unpack global trade tensions with clarity and punch. @ucddublin.bsky.social
We're extending the deadline for submissions to the 2nd Irish Public Economics Workshop by a week until Monday 21st April. Details in the thread below
More tariffs means more talking about the impact of tariffs! This time with my brilliant colleagues Alan de Bromhead and Ron Davies. @ucddublin.bsky.social @ucdtl.bsky.social @ucdresearch.bsky.social
Made it into Breakfast TV yesterday. Ireland AM. Serious topic for 7:30am. @ucddublin.bsky.social
To round out the day, I made it on the BBC (NI ed)! Asked about the impact of the Trump tariffs 2.0 on Irish dairy and drinks producers. They will feel the impact most. Labor-intensive sectors with no tariff safeguarding and ready American substitutes. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis... (iPlayer only)
Happy to have had my thoughts on the impact of the Trump tariffs 2.0 on Ireland considered this piece in La Croix. la-croix.com/economie/dro... Reads well in French! @ucddublin.bsky.social
Joined the Pat Kenny show on @newstalkfm.bsky.social yesterday for a discussion on the impact of the Trump tariffs 2.0 on Ireland, the EU's next steps, and multinationals' investment. With @scottlucas.bsky.social and Bertie Ahern. link.goloudplayer.com/s/pGxmuO2QhSoO
@annagoeddeke.bsky.social, geheime Mission! Du hast nix gesehen.
Had a lovely time at UC Dublin! Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and the comments! Special thanks to my host @streckernm.bsky.social also for the fun and the great chat (48 hours away from my flooded apartment was also a plus 😅)
