They Will Kill You | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA THEY WILL KILL YOU is one of those rare cases where the first time I saw the trailer was the first time I heard of it, and before it was over it had become

I really enjoyed the action-packed horror-blast THEY WILL KILL YOU, and Zazie Beetz is outstanding in it. I hope she gets to do more fight movies, because it turns out she has a rare gift.

Gerard Butler’s Most Powerful Weapon? Relatability. The star of 'Greenland 2: Migration' has been beating up bad guys and saving the world for a long time—but always wants his characters to be someone you can recognize from the real world.

I finally sat down with maybe THE perennial Brandon Guy, Gerard Butler, and had a great conversation about Greenland 2, the differences in his many action heroes and a tiny bit on Den of Thieves 3. You can read it here:

PRIMATE (2026): Lean. MEAN. I'm annoyed that the film sets up some big family trauma narrative, only to abandon it in favor of tongue-in-cheek simian slasher beats, but the practical effects and the pacing are too well done to ignore. Surprisingly heavy giallo influences, too? Not mad about it.

I really, really, really liked THE LONG WALK—it's one of my favorite movies of the year (so far).

The "unadaptable" becomes one of the year's most harrowing and impactful watches. Here's my full review for @dailydead.bsky.social:

K.O. (2025) Ciryl Gane. Alice Belaïdi. Only on Netflix June 6th.

Was K.O. on anyone's radar?? Completely by the books French genre action film in the best way. Some excellent fights in this! Ciryl Gane is fuck-huge Reacher big, performing some gnarly combos, throws/suplexes. Great club fight (yes another one) and epic finale. This is the DTV goods we love!

Video Stores, Revival Houses, and the Future of Movies The documentary “Videoheaven” and MOMA’s series “A Theater Near You” consider how people watch films and why it matters.

“Yet, though the rise of video rentals shrank the public space of movies by keeping more viewers at home, the video store arguably expanded the public space of movies by its ubiquity, covering the commercial landscape much more densely than movie theatres did.”
