The reason that there are so many dad games is that some men had careers long enough that they both 1) gained the political capital to pitch and then execute a project with those themes 2) were able to sustain a career long enough that it was viable for them to parent while still work* in games.

I’ve thought about this a lot too! I’ve always taken this to be because there are a lot of middle aged men in leading production roles at studios who get to pitch games based off their own experience as fathers, while women don’t get the same opportunities/interest within those same studios
