FDA and NIH Announce New Food and Nutrition Research Agenda

On Friday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced they’ll collaborate on a new agenda for nutrition research that will prioritize understanding how ultra-processed foods and food additives harm Americans’ health.

FDA and NIH are sub-agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Their joint Nutrition Regulatory Science Program will play a key role in Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) plan to focus on preventing chronic disease, according to a news release.

I was supposed to have an NIH study section (KEDD) tomorrow, but it was "postponed TBD" today at 3 PM Eastern. Yesterday, individuals who were going to travel for the in-person meeting were told not to travel.

Just confirming firsthand that the madness continues.

Really unfortunate that the FOA for Research Supplements to Promote Diversity has expired (originally May 2026)! Part of my PhD and postdoc was supported by these supplements, which benefit URM, individuals with disabilities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
