Pete Seeger - We shall overcome (HD) YouTube video by gonzalo blanco

But “I do believe, we shall overcome…”

Is the 'cold bath' the old puritanical 'If its not thoroughly unpleasant it can't be good for you'?

Word of the day is ‘foozle’, from the 19th century: of a golfer, to bungle a shot. More generally, to make a complete mess of something.

Not that you'd know it from British media. I read a post recently that said, roughly: "To British news media, some events happened in the world today that weren't in the US".

When it really matters in this era of information technology and super-duper communications and you want to speak to gov. dept. you might as well have a set of messenger pigeons.

...and Jane Austen's worst review?

Honestly, we found this flyleaf graffiti from a disgruntled reader quite encouraging. You can't please all of the people all of the time and all that.

Thanks, and best wishes for your self. The politics of scapegoating the most vulnerable is utterly disgusting.

This is how the media bullying about benefits nearly destroyed me - over many years (when I didn't know ASD and ADHD were an issue of mine). And with no hyperbole involved I feel I'm still just waiting to die because of it.

Wow, great memories. The TV theme tunes videos on YouTube are brilliant to browse through - eg The Flashing Blade, Follyfoot and the rest.

I've paid my landlord's mortgage off over the last 20 years, and in 3 months, I'll be homeless because he's pushing the rent up again. Until we treat housing as a human right for all, rather than a profit-making commodity for the few, we'll never see an end to homelessness and insecure housing ❤️🚩✊🏾

Helen Macfarlane 1818 - 1860 - chartist ancestors Helen Macfarlane was the first translator of the Communist Manifesto into English - and was probably the most influential woman in Chartism. This is her life story

Helen Macfarlane died #OnThisDay 1860. Described on her gravestone only as ‘the wife of Rev John W Edwards’, she had led a remarkable life as witness to the European revolutions of 1848 and as a friend of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels.
