It all started in 1955 with a misprint in a Colorado newspaper and a call to Col. Harry Shoup's secret military hotline. Shoup played along with the tiny voice who called, and a tradition was born. From the NPR archives.
I don't miss living in South Georgia, but I do miss the night skies without the light pollution. It was a nice visit but I'm glad to be home.
what in the hell just happened in Milwaukee
This is awesome: a "WKRP in Cincinnati" fan created a three-hour Johnny Fever radio block, by using clips from the TV show and dropping in the full songs on his intros and outros, plus commercials and Les Nessman news breaks.
Thank you science. Thank you vaccines.
I love getting a chance to visit state botanical gardens. Pictures are from a recent visit to the North Carolina gardens in Chapel Hill.
when it's at its best, physics is a kind of poetry
Hiking is my retirement plan. 2nd largest tree in Georgia, the Gennett Poplar.
I know it was the right decision to leave teaching this year (retire). But I wasn't expecting the wave of emotions that hit when I turned out the lights of my classroom for the last time.
The previous physics teachers at my school hoarded the best lab equipment! I love it! I use this for my balanced forces lab that I got from @barnettdreyfuss.bsky.social and if I haven't said it lately, I really appreciate the #iteachphysics group 🎢
If you teach Physics and haven't seen this trove of resources shared by a retired teacher, you are in for a treat!

I wish I knew! This is the first time I've had one bloom and I have been frantically reading up on what to do now that the blooms have dropped. It is in a cool spot with diffused light so I'm thinking that was the key.
I have several quilt tops that I am machine quilting. Not my favorite process. So I have been continuing my relearning hand embroidery. The bee was from a pattern but the dandelions were free style.
Well, my Christmas cactus decided to show out.
Merlin loves a quilt on a cold night. Me too Merlin, me too.
When looking up this book I stumbled upon Raffa’s website. Just gorgeous and so helpful. Thank you. www.theclevercarrot.com/2014/01/sour...
I’m so excited to try this! I’ll check out the Reddit.
That looks amazing! I have a friend who is going to give me some starter. Any tips?
To me, the Buffalo Springfield/Young MC mashup above and the Metallica/Huey Lewis ones are his masterpieces.

I'm not a fan of cold weather hiking but I have to admit, it is a different kind of beautiful.
Predictive text models do not ever "answer your question"
They predict what an answer to your question would probably look like.
Which is very, very, very different
I'm not sure what possessed me- I haven't hand embroidered in years, but decided to spruce up an old pair of jeans with a few flowers.
THEY ARE MAKING THE MINERALOGY LEGO SET, DEMOCRACY WORKS
We put up to four classes in the cafeteria with one sub. So even if you think you have a sub and leave lesson plans there is a chance they get pulled to watch multiple classes. It is chaos but at least we aren’t losing our planning time.
Quilt shows are so inspiring. There are so many creative quilters out there.🧵🪡
I gave bonus points if they had a science theme!
I have learned that if I take stuff home to grade over the weekend I’m really just taking those papers on a ride, from school and then back again. Most times they don’t even leave the car. But that doesn’t stop me from doing it and being optimistic that something is going to get graded on a weekend!
It was more fun than I remembered and the applications to torque worked well with the new standards. #iteachphysics
Did mobiles in AP Physics for the 1st time in years as part of my crusade to bring fun back to physics because this year I have students with no physics background, 10th-12th, 30+ in each class, so many different levels of math ability. I just don't want them to leave my class hating physics.
