how many times do we have to remind people that South American trans activists came up with Latinx not Americans in academia!!!!!

This is the framework I needed today, to love, to get out of bed, to fight, to be in this moment. Brilliant, necessary.

Like so many elections around the country, today is about organized money vs. organized people.

I believe people will win.

it is unfathomable to some people that a person can have a good life and go "damn it'd be cool if other people also had good lives we should make that happen"

On Friday night, we walked the length of Manhattan, from Inwood Hill to Battery Park.

New Yorkers deserve a Mayor they can see, hear, even yell at. The city is in the streets.

If you’re arrested you should be able to examine the technology used to identify you, especially if there’s a history of inaccuracies. We argue just that in our latest amicus brief.

Not everyone got it wrong, & I’m also grateful to have my mentor’s support pushing back in moments like these. But this MATTERS—because it doesn’t just undermine me, it also erases the real, hard, brilliant labor of BIWOC like Brianna Amos & Lucy Prout who helped make this paper what it is

2. One instance where the above happened & I wasn’t mentioned at ALL—despite the article linking to the paper where I’m listed as first author

3. Repeatedly being listed as a PhD student instead of candidate, even when writers had my correct info & gave that accuracy to men/white peers

1. Multiple instances where my advisor is credited as lead author or having conceived our study

This echoes patterns where white men are assumed to lead, REINFORCES the very systems our paper critiques, & is overall a stark example of how work on racism by femmes of color gets written out

While I’ve been fortunate to have significant news coverage on our Schizophrenia Bulletin paper, here’s some of the erasure & exclusion I’ve noticed in emails/articles as a first-author femme of color—erasure that's esp. jarring given the studys focus on structural racism & state violence:

Never has it been clearer that “no one is free until Palestine is free” is not a chant but a warning, as we all stare into the abyss of another world war.

Graphs showing 25 years of budgets for the National Institute of Health, NASA, and the NSF. In all cases, the proposed budget for next year is far, far below any year of the previous quarter century.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

Experiences with Discrimination May Raise Risk of Early Psychotic Episodes: NYU Study Researchers see evidence that broad societal inequities could contribute to the development of early psychosis among marginalized young adults

A screenshot of two sentences from a word document. The sentences read: In the Dominican Republic, there is a dish known as Sancocho. While the dish itself has its own meaning (em dash here) a stew that is an assortment of varied ingredients and spices (another em dash is inserted here again). From there, the sentence cuts off.

Just went back to check my masters thesis that I wrote 10 years ago, since it's the oldest thing that I have published (also good lord that was a while ago).

...not even a full two sentences into that 70-page document before I use two of them. Sigh.

The biggest beneficiary of prison labor isn't a private company. It's the prisons themselves:

It's incredible I've have these opportunities to build community with students, especially those who are BIPOC, first-gen, trans/queer, neurodivergent, & more. But it's not some unattainable thing; it's something we have power to engage in despite this country's BS. And that feels worth saying (4/4)

I think that, too often, we get lost in experiences of marginalization and the despair/loss connected to it—which, don't get me wrong, it's *SO* important to feel those & to not ignore them. But I also think we forget we have power, too. Especially for those of us at higher levels of academia (3/4)

Thinking on this after a great convo with some BSW & MSW students this AM re: institutional responses to the current administration. It's wild how much these students embody love & community & are willing to fight for one another in the face of institutional silence. But they shouldn't have to (2/4)
