I take no pleasure in saying this, but Robin Williams’ improvisations to Cuba during the “Show me the money“ scene, they don’t service the material at all. In fact, most of his improvs feel like they are for an audience of 1 and not to help tell the story.

I’m watching JERRY MAGUIRE and, on the 20th anniversary Blu-ray, the making-of doc features an audio recording of the 1st table read.

Rod is Cuba Gooding Jr. Mira Sorvino is Dorothy Boyd. Jean Smart is Laurel, Dorothy’s sister, and — as Jerry?

Robin Williams.

I’m watching my favorite WEST WING episode, “Two Cathedrals,” ahead of its 25th anniversary in May and it’s refreshing (and surreal) to see an American administration that doesn’t actively loathe or hate or want to kill Americans.

When I was a kid, my friends and I would use our Ertl die cast Enterprise-D to make our own episodes, and we would end each with a preview of the next episode by doing our own VO, in that voice.

So then… maybe do it? Like, we agree with you. You and your colleagues have more power to do than the citizens who gave that power to you. So take action. Before it’s too late.

When I see sitting members of Congress say "The Cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment" what I hear is "Someone else - not me - should throw their bodies in front of this to stop it."

Call for impeachment and if you can't get that done make sure everyone knows who to blame!

Seriously, what the fuck is this.

This is completely deranged, and anyone who can’t say so is a coward.

I am glad people are discovering that this version of the movie is now available for streaming, but for a trade to make a news story about a movie that’s been out for 23 years is… interesting.

Last year, I got to visit the set of THE PITT’s most recent episode (213) and it was the kindest, most efficient set I’ve ever been on.

They even let this massive ER fan get treated like a patient.

Left: a show whose writers constantly introduced major plot turns without any idea how to deal with them later.

Right: a show whose creators came up with their ending early on and stuck to it, no matter the mounting evidence that it was no longer viable.

Planning in TV is wildly overrated.

In a scene from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard lies on a bed in sick bay with a small device attached to his forehead. Dr. Crusher stands over him with a medical tricorder, looking at the readings. Will Riker stands just behind her left shoulder looking worriedly over at a guest surgeon (Weird Al) who is on Beverly's other side holding up a chainsaw with a mischievous smile.

I love that beat with Worf and Geordi, too. The whole episode is full of fun and inventive beats. I know Michael Piller didn’t like the final product b/c it wasn’t “about” anything other than action, but sometimes that’s ok when the story telling that action is this good.

STAR TREK’s take on A FEW GOOD MEN is one of the franchise’s best hours of TV. One of Ron Moore’s most compelling scripts, too.

Imagine writing a book that gets adapted into a movie about a guy who has nothing on Earth but finds a best friend in space — a story about how saving the universe means you start first by making friends — and thinking Star Trek is just a show about phasers going “pew pew.”

They started a war of choice for absolutely no reason, with no real strategy and no real preparation, and the end result will be a global situation that is, in every single way, worse than what it was when they started.

Reposting this because I revamped my site and the link changed. Added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I think is more interesting than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! rian-johnson.com/scripts

On her birthday, we remember the magnificent D.C. Fontana, who wrote for The Original Series, The Animated Series, Next Gen, and Deep Space Nine. She wrote classics like "Journey to Babel" and "This Side of Paradise" and introduced Gene Roddenberry to legendary costumer William Ware Theiss.
