I am glad people are discovering that this version of the movie is now available for streaming, but for a trade to make a news story about a movie that’s been out for 23 years is… interesting.
Last year, I got to visit the set of THE PITT’s most recent episode (213) and it was the kindest, most efficient set I’ve ever been on.
They even let this massive ER fan get treated like a patient.
Left: a show whose writers constantly introduced major plot turns without any idea how to deal with them later.
Right: a show whose creators came up with their ending early on and stuck to it, no matter the mounting evidence that it was no longer viable.
Planning in TV is wildly overrated.
In a scene from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard lies on a bed in sick bay with a small device attached to his forehead. Dr. Crusher stands over him with a medical tricorder, looking at the readings. I love that beat with Worf and Geordi, too. The whole episode is full of fun and inventive beats. I know Michael Piller didn’t like the final product b/c it wasn’t “about” anything other than action, but sometimes that’s ok when the story telling that action is this good.
STAR TREK’s take on A FEW GOOD MEN is one of the franchise’s best hours of TV. One of Ron Moore’s most compelling scripts, too.
Imagine writing a book that gets adapted into a movie about a guy who has nothing on Earth but finds a best friend in space — a story about how saving the universe means you start first by making friends — and thinking Star Trek is just a show about phasers going “pew pew.”

They started a war of choice for absolutely no reason, with no real strategy and no real preparation, and the end result will be a global situation that is, in every single way, worse than what it was when they started.
