This is a snapshot of the failure of MSM and the concomitant ignorance within the American electorate about what is happening in and to their country.

For U.S. medical researchers, shrinking labs and bare budgets are the new reality The Trump administration has slashed the number of grants from the National Institutes of Health, with far fewer focused on women, cancer and mental health.

Very good (if tragic) story from the Washington Post

Where U.S. science has been hit hardest after Trump’s first year The Trump administration has slashed the number of grants from the National Institutes of Health, with far fewer focused on women, cancer and mental health.

Those of us doing research related to women’s health have been hit particularly hard by the govt’s sabotage of the NIH. I spoke to WaPo for this piece, as painful as it was to discuss the reality my lab is facing. www.washingtonpost.com/science/2026...

Thank you, @jeffreybgray.bsky.social.

"Proposed amendments to Ontario’s freedom of information law would make the province the most secretive in Canada, experts say, despite Premier Doug Ford’s assurances that they would be in line with legislation in the rest of the country."

This is BAD, folks. Ford not only wants to hide his cell phone logs, he also wants to hide private emails about the Greenbelt.

Remember that scandal?

This is egregious. We need to push back against this LOUDLY.

Pls call this feedback line & say, "NO!".

a thing that grinds at me is how much Western society has emphasized personal effort and education to deal with systemic issues, and how mass layoffs and high gas prices create impossible living situations for so many people already struggling to afford basic necessities

Doug Ford is counting on our fatigue, apathy or complicity to get away with these changes to FOI rules that will stop the court ordered release of his cell logs.

So, it's not about communist China (spin on steroids), it's about protecting DOUG FORD.

If this angers you, call Ford!

Yesterday, Ford's defense for changing FOI rules "to protect ourselves against the communist Chinese" is the MOST OUTRAGEOUS SPIN I have ever heard uttered by an ON politician.

The REAL, IMMEDIATE cause for his FOI changes is to thwart the court-ordered release of his phone logs.

SO, ALL ABOUT HIM

Feels like every single Democratic official should be loudly pointing out that the president is a dementia-ravaged thug who needs to be impeached and removed from office, even if just to cover their own asses for when he inevitably tries to nuke the Oscar ceremony or whatever.

Continuing saga of Niagara Region reform In the latest chapter of this long-running tale, amalgamation seems to be off the table, writes David Siegel. But what do the latest proposals mean?

Just walked by a colleague's classroom after my class finished and he was talking about Elvis, getting blank stares and so he had to ask "Does anyone know who Elvis Presley is?"

It's rough out here on these teaching streets.

Republicans are using kids as a smokescreen for what Big Tech lobbyists want: a national surveillance program to harvest our data with zero protections for people and their privacy.

We must fight this dangerous expansion of surveillance technology.

"Gartner predicts that by next year, half of the companies that fired workers for AI are going to hire them back. Also, 9 months ago, Microsoft…proclaimed that 30% of their code was written by AI, and since then, we've seen some of the worst software issues at the company in its history."

Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success.

The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.

What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.

Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

You’d never know that half of these teams (those of Drs. Tai and Ogilvie) are actually being funded by the Terry Fox Research Institute, not CIHR. 🤔

$300 Million in jet planes lost to a fuckup.

That’s 83 five year NIH R01 grants burned in minutes due to error, aka poor execution of this unnecessary war which serves only to make the world more dangerous.

I don’t even know anymore. War, the senseless murder of civilians, pedophiles in power, just a whole lot of fuckshit.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya on His Mission to Rebuild Public Trust in the NIH and CDC He discusses "DEI" research, campus funding freezes, ACIP, and the path forward for the nation's public health infrastructure

The @whyshoulditrustyou.bsky.social team asked some tough questions of NIH Director Bhattacharya. It's worth a listen: substack.com/home/post/p-...

I wanted to add some additional context on Bhattacharya's responses. Sorry, long thread.
