It was there from the c. 1100 until full destruction (“Second” Great Raft) in the 1870s. The GR was a living breathing part of the land and the river shifted and snaked over the seasons. Indigenous fishing communities & other nearby migrant tribes would trade & congregate with the changing routes.

The Great Raft has become my Roman Empire. There used to be a natural wonder and ecosystem that white colonizers tore apart for boat capitalism and caused extreme drought in bayous and destroyed beyond just the Raft. You could ride horses on it. HORSES.
