_murica • > Iran Strikes 12h

If you're not in the military you have no idea how fucking bad it hurts to hear your Commander in Chief
1) unilaterally declare war without so much as a press conference
2) observe that war from their mansion in Florida and not at their place of employment
3) glance over the deaths of three of your fellow servicemen women without so much as a live
speech
4) follow up the announcement of those deaths with "more will die"
My heart is fucking breaking.

Is This Trump’s Biggest Scam Yet?
Is This Trump’s Biggest Scam Yet? The Trump-Republican “Big Beautiful Bill” is actually a “Big Ugly Nightmare.”Much of what’s included in it will begin in

Last night, Trump bragged about how he and Republicans "lifted" 2.4 million Americans off of food stamps.

The reality is that their Big Ugly Bill kicked 2.4 million hungry Americans, including many children, off of vital food assistance programs.

Here's what else it did.

banner advertising Semafor's annual "trust in media" conference featuring a long list of people who are actually eroding trust in media, like Brendan Carr and Matt Murray and Mathias Dopfner

once a year the brunchlords at Semafor host a "restoring trust in news" conference where they unironically platform most of the people responsible for destroying trust in news, then lob softball questions at them

this year's lineup is a real doozy

A black-and-white graphic that reads MINNESOTA STRONG alongside a small common loon, which is Minnesota’s state bird

I’m taking the Senate floor to share the story of what’s happening in Minnesota at the hands of ICE and CBP – but more importantly, I’ll be imploring my colleagues (regardless of party) to use our power to rein in ICE’s lawlessness.

Tune in at 3:10pm CT/4:10pm ET

ICE is a secret police force. No warrants. No courts. No lawyers. And no appeals. People vanish in the night, not because they broke the law, but because the law no longer means anything. The knock on the door is the sentence.

Screenshot of an X post by Acyn. The post quotes a dialogue: “Jennings: Let’s not get our knickers in a twist here” followed by “McGowan” saying the attitude is “insane,” calling for bringing people down regardless of party, and alleging a “giant cabal” that doesn’t have to listen to the law. At the bottom is a TV clip still with a man on the left and a woman speaking on the right, with on-screen text including “SUDDEN REVERSAL.”

From Senator Chris McDaniel: “Lately, some folks have taken to calling ICE “the Gestapo.” It sounds fierce. It feels righteous. But it isn’t true, and it isn’t harmless.

The Gestapo was a secret police force. No warrants. No courts. No lawyers. And no appeals. People vanished in the night, not because they broke the law, but because the law no longer meant anything. The knock on the door was the sentence.

ICE isn’t that. Not even close.

ICE is a public agency enforcing laws passed by elected officials. Its agents file reports. They seek warrants. They lose cases. Judges stop them. Lawyers challenge them. Some detainees go home. That’s not tyranny. That’s bureaucracy, for better and worse.

You can hate immigration policy. You can argue enforcement is too harsh, too sloppy, or too broad. You can work to have the law changed if you wish. That’s a republic doing what it’s supposed to do.

But when you call ordinary law enforcement “the Gestapo,” you cheapen real evil. You turn history into a slogan and suffering into a metaphor. And once every badge is tyranny, no tyranny is left to recognize.

In Mississippi, I was raised to believe words should earn their weight. This one hasn't yet. It throws around the language of dictatorship while living under a system where courts still rule, lawyers still argue, and the government still loses.

That difference matters.

Because the day enforcement becomes secret, unchecked, and answerable to no one, we won’t need to borrow names from history. We’ll know exactly what we’re dealing with.

And we’ll wish we’d kept our words honest.”
