This might not be my place. So sorry if overstepping, but I had a similar issue and wanted to share my experience. The human model can't be placed lower in the roster, as it can block other unit's models. My solution was to place the human as a special unit behind or at the top as a special unit.

There are many ways to make generic #pixelart textures much more interesting. Some are subtle, others more pronounced.
Humble suggestion, you should rename bird to wind or traditional flying type. As it boxes creativity away from wing attributes of other creatures. Once again humble suggestion, hope not to offend.
