Senator Arreguin presents a bill at a committee hearing.
Happy Friday! It has been a busy couple weeks in Sacramento as committees debate and advance legislation. This thread provides an update on legislation I have introduced to move California and the East Bay forward. 🧵 (1/4)
Text: I’m proud to have been a strong champion for many of the priorities in the Senate’s Foundation for the Future budget plan. The budget plan has more than $1 billion for housing and homelessness, $50 million to support Californians impacted by federal immigration actions, maintains access to Medi-Cal Dental, and provides critical funding to our local food banks. At a time when the Trump Administration is cutting essential services, the Foundation for the Future ensures working families continue to have access to essential services, while building up our reserves to address the state’s long-term deficit.
The State Senate has unveiled its budget proposal for this year, protecting vital programs while advancing fiscal responsibility. My thoughts:
¡Sí se puede! Today, the Senate recognized the incredible contributions of Dolores Huerta. As someone who grew up being inspired by the Farmworkers Movement, I admire her steadfast commitment over many decades in advancing the rights of laborers, women, immigrants, and Latinos. youtu.be/hqlXplsRj0E

Great to meet with constituents at my capitol office to discuss social justice legislation, including immigrant rights and creating opportunities for people who were formally incarcerated.

Thank you to @seiuca.org, Supervisor Lena Tam, and the Building and Construction Trades Council of Alameda County for coming to Sacramento to support SB 1400. This bill will improve oversight, operational efficiency, and fiscal sustainability of the Alameda Health System.

I joined the North Coast States Carpenters Union to speak out against tax fraud and wage theft. Every worker deserves to be paid fairly, treated lawfully, and respected for their contributions.
The Berkeley community recently lost a giant. Marcia Poole was a champion of tenants and the unhoused. Her determination and refusal to back down even in the face of intimidation helped uncover a human trafficking ring, bringing one of Berkeley's largest landlords to justice.
I recently recognized Cynthia Pierce, a trailblazer who helped women across the country break the glass ceiling and close the gender gap in public offices. An early supporter of Close the Gap California, today the State Senate has gender parity because of her work. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfi8...
I adjourned the Senate in honor of John Beam, a beloved Oakland football coach who for decades not only coached teams to championship success, but coached youth on becoming outstanding citizens. His belief in his students brought out the best in people, both on and off the field.
Tomorrow is Tax Day. This weekend, I joined Tacos & Taxes in East Oakland, helping working class families file their tax returns. The California Franchise Tax Board has resources available if you need assistance with filing. www.ftb.ca.gov/file/
I had the pleasure of honoring Chris Chatmon, a James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award recipient, and CEO of Kingmakers of Oakland. Chris's commitment to the Oakland community has helped provide mentorship, leadership, and open career opportunities to youth.

Over 30 years ago, I met Dolores Huerta as a kid, marching in advocacy for farmworkers' rights. Decades later, I continue to be inspired by Dolores' activism, tenacity, and compassion. Thank you for being a lifelong champion of labor and social justice. ¡Sí se puede!
Starting at noon: I will be hosting a press conference on my bill SB 1330, which will provide enhanced legal protections for utility employees and other workers engaged in essential infrastructure work.
It's Tax Season. If you need assistance filing basic tax returns (W-2 or 1099) and have an income of under $69k, free filing services are available this Saturday, April 11 at Oakland's Parker Community Resource Center. Sign up for your appointment here: www.mobilize.us/gso/event/92...
Wishing those who celebrate a happy Easter. May today give you renewed hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Congrats to the City of Richmond on the recent groundbreaking of renovations to the main library, which will expand it into a sustainable community hub and resiliency center. The $34M project is funded in part by California's State Library grant.
Today I welcomed Oakland educators to their new home. This innovative housing model is showing that we are taking action to invest in our schools and communities. When teachers are rooted in the communities they serve, students succeed.
Did you feel it? A magnitude 4.6 earthquake in the Santa Cruz Mountains that rattled the region overnight serves as a reminder that April is Earthquake Preparedness Month. Learn more to get prepared for when the Big One hits: www.news.caloes.ca.gov/quakeprepmon...
Text: Farmworkers Day Image: Graphic of farmworkers picking strawberries in a field.
As the son and grandson of farmworkers, I am proud to honor the invaluable contributions laborers do to feed Californians and the world. This Farmworkers Day, we acknowledge the need to provide respect and dignity to those who sacrifice so much to provide to others.
we will continue to push back on the hateful rhetoric and policies that harm the Trans Community.

Every March 31st we observe Trans Visibility Day. We raise and appreciate the transgender lives in our communities and raise awareness of the discrimination, poverty, and violence that our Trans siblings go through.
While many seek to attack the Trans Community, in California,

"When it comes to tackling the state’s crisis, Arreguin said lawmakers have to take an “all of the above approach” – prevent displacement, but at the same time build more housing units and lower costs for construction."
Senator Arreguin speaks at a press conference on gun violence prevention in front of the State Capitol Building.
This morning I joined colleagues and advocates in supporting common-sense bills to address gun violence prevention, building upon the success California has made at reducing crime, including a 25% drop in violent crime in Oakland over the past year.
