I am 100% on the side of Games Crit/Media, I just see it as a similar, if smaller, foundational flashpoint in our modern paradoxical era where "no one" trusts games media but also games are the only entertainment medium where reviews impact sales. They need you to tell them what to hate.

I compare it to Gamergate or anti-intellectualism because of what it represents: The "Adversary Gamers" writ large (conservative, mostly male, sexist, racist) do not need to understand what they're looking at if what it's seeing supports its terrible ideas. The truth doesn't matter, never has.

Yes, but all of that being true can't change how the story was recieved at large by the gaming landscape. There were even stories about it in Polygon and Kotaku, I think, and though multiple outlets tried to spread the reality of what that clip was it was too late, the damage had been done.

I think if Games Crit Media had more examples of guys like @andycortez.cool (people who are demonstrably skilled at the games they review and can showcase this) we could walk back some of this damage and maybe treat Games Media more humanely and less like people with a bucket stuck on their head.
