Actually I should correct myself, I believe the oldest MP in the lower House is 80 year old Bob Katter. But he’s a very special case and the oldest MP we’ve ever had in history was Billy Hughes who was MP from 1901-1952 and died in office age 90. Thankfully we’ve never had a Prime Minister that old.

Thing that puzzles me is, I live in Australia. We don’t have term limits here (even for the Prime Minister), and yet I can’t recall any MP remaining for so long that they became elderly. In fact, in my electorate, our previous MP of 18 years resigned to work at a University and was only in his 60s.

They also hate most forms of liberalism. So that’s one thing socialists and liberals can stand in solidarity.
