Crazy too because they do have a level-headed, sane approach in some ways that fosters good will (Skyblivion stuff recently), and they also recruit modders to work at Bethesda! But then, you have the Creation Club, and, well... fuck.

Logan Cunningham fits that to a T. Has a really rich voice with a lot of range, and a real knack for giving lowkey lines a genuine softness. Achilles in Hades and the Transistor in Transitor are particular examples.
Just write. You can salvage a terrible effort, but not one that doesn't exist at all. And, in all likelihood, the ways in which you think what you've written are terrible will differ tremendously from what others make of it. Also, rest easy knowing whatever you write is doubtlessly better than A.I.
Just bullet time, keycard mazes, and lots of enemies bum rushing you in tight corridors. Didn't make it far, personally.
Sure, sanding down the edges makes the game more "accessible" to people who didn't like those elements, but what about those who did? I preferred the launch version to the smoother one now, but have no way to play it anymore. QoL does not exist in a vacuum.
Adding more map markers to the game too so that people treating it as a mindless checklist can have an easier time doing that is also a mistake. Same with removing the rep penalty for theft. I hate the notion that QoL is inherently a good thing.
It'd be like Dragon's Dogma 2 caving and just making fast travel free, destroying a load bearing wall because people don't want to struggle against games in unconventional or inconvenient ways. Really hope CD's difficulty modes are more than just combat tuning for this reason.
I very much dislike that the only form of difficulty that seems to be 'sacred' anymore is combat related. Crimson Desert blunting the stamina cost of gliding completely trivializes basically every navigation decision in the game, but is praised as QoL instead of a mistake.

Oh dang, I knew that indie character action game Homura Hime was clearly inspired by Nier Automata (right down to having an orbiting gun-pod and bullet hell segments in fights), but they even got direct feedback from Yoko Taro and Takahusa Taura.
Very cool that the Nier crew actively supported it.

Stylistically the presentation and storytelling of Crimson Desert reflects this too. It's not going for naturalism, it's going for stoic heroism and myth. Characters are more meant to fill fairy tale style roles than they are vivid portraits. It's a bit dry as a result, but still interesting imo.
In essence, Kliff is the guy who thinks he's Him but actually is. Everyone hypes up a tyrant as being scary. Upon learning his name and location, Kliff immediately goes there, butchers his guards, and fells the mad tyrant in single combat before journeying onwards to right more wrongs.
Kliff is more or less the same kind of character as your wandering cowboy or ronin, simply as a medieval knight type.
He is explictly set up by the story as a paragon of heroism, saved from the clutches of death and elevated to a karmic force of justice to vanquish the corruption corroding the land because of his innate goodness. Kliff fits basically any quest scenario. Peasant or prince, he'll set things right.
I think the writing in Crimson Desert is misunderstood. Very much seems to be in the vein of something more mythic than realistic. Kliff is not meant to be a 'human' character so much as he is the embodiment of a stoic wandering hero who straightforwardly solves the conflicts he encounters.
It's so funny seeing people come up with all these insane ways you can fix game dev when the answer would literally be "stop abusing contractor systems so you have to retrain your creatives every 9 months, and fire that guy who's telling you asset reuse is a cardinal sin"
Here's a video I made of honorable duels in Half Sword.

Really wish the Tomb Raider challenge patch had an option to use the PS1 save crystals without having to do it on new game plus lmao. All those extra modifiers but not one that is a straight up part of the game's history. Ah well, it's cool nonetheless.
At least Half-Sword is sick as hell and so are these clips. Silver lining.
Was having no end to issues rendering a video. Finally downgraded my nvidia drivers to last stable video rendering ones. It's rendering the video faster than the actual video length. I swear to god if I went through the wringer for four days because of driver issues...
in honor of resident evil day i gotta post my fav clip from charlie thegamingbrit’s resident evil videos. every time anyone argues about action vs horror in the series i think of this word for word
Insanely funny Nioh 3's big new combat feature is "press a button to toggle Ninja Gaiden mode." Nobody does it like Team Ninja.

Sometimes you just write something because you like it. Because you want to.
In solidarity with today's ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA blackout, MinnMax is donating $1 to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for every share of this Bluesky post for the next hour.
Hey, sorry, this is very important to me. A very good friend of mine has just informed me his partner was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer, and is undergoing treatment. They have a GoFundMe to help pay for the expenses. Please, if you are able to, please help them out.

I hate AI almost as much as I hate ICE. I write about stuff on my reader-supported blog, and this one's been getting shared around again lately, so I figured, hey, I've got a really big $350 doctor's visit cost coming up.
