Disabled people shouldn't have to be perfectly nice or kind when we ask for accommodations and inclusion. We shouldn't HAVE to ask.
Furthermore, we usually ARE being nice when we ask; ableds just take any request that they do the bare minimum for us as if it's a great slight to their honor.
People assume they’ll be the exception. That disability, poverty, homelessness won’t befall them
That if something “bad” happens, they will be able to “try harder” their way out of it.
This false belief allows them to blame the ones who are suffering, instead of the oppressive systems that trap us
I do not hide from suffering, but I will not minimize it or whitewash it. It is not beautiful, and it is not noble. So I will fight against it with every fiber of my being wherever I see it.
