Michigan Democrats are more united than the party’s leadership would have you believe • Michigan Advance I am a delegate from West Michigan who attended the Michigan Democratic Party Endorsement Convention in Detroit this weekend.  The media narrative of “antisemitism” and “division” completely ignores t...

"Instead of trying to shut us down, the party leadership should be asking how they can harness this energy. Because if they keep attacking their own base, they won’t have anyone left to blame but themselves."

Time to kick the "sit down and shut up" crowd to the curb before they blow it again.

Detained immigrants launch hunger strike at Michigan ICE facility A hunger strike was launched at North Lake Processing Center, the largest immigration detention center in Michigan, on Monday, April 20.

“We demand competent doctors, better medical care — the food here is absolute garbage — and, above all, an end to the procedural delays we are suffering through inside these walls”

The Iran war’s next hidden cost: Higher prices for plastic Last year, the Middle East accounted for around 42% of global exports of polyethylene, the key ingredient in most plastic packaging.

NBC put their story behind a paywall, and what's up with that? Wonder if it's working for them.

Petroleum infuses a multitude of everyday items the Iran war could make more expensive The Iran war’s most tangible and immediate effect for many people outside the Middle East has been spiking gasoline prices. But crude oil isn’t just refined as fuel.

Not sure if people are aware of this, but have seen a few reports on it - and well, they're going to find out as prices keep increasing.

One good thing is the throwaway economy may be over. We stop filling landfills with crap, as we learn to reuse and recycle. It can be done.

We've got a bullpen problem. Middle relief has been less than stellar, to put it mildly.

So my local NBC is running Seth Meyers reruns and now they cut into the news already in progress?

No more national anthem. Nexstar hates America, obviously. 🙄

Solar rep booed as Michigan township considers proposal to add 1k acres of panels Opposition to a proposed solar farm in Hillsdale County has been steadfast for months. Here are five takeaways from the first part of a public hearing.

Rural communities don't want anything but family farms and maybe we should concentrate on advancement for homes and businesses in or near cities.

It's the hard way, but conversion does have to be done at some point anyway. Excess fed back to the grid and used to lower our bills, thanks.

4/20 sales seem strong despite new wholesale tax on cannabis Michigan collects the first payments of the new 24% wholesale tax on cannabis today. The tax has raised prices for some dispensaries, but business remains steady.

Lead at Tegna. 😎

Price increases have been slight to non-existent around here, meaning they are finding ways to eat the cost to remain competitive. My favorite spot reduced their hours a bit, for example.

Michigan Democratic Party endorses Gilchrist, Savit Now to another important step in an exceptionally busy election cycle for Michigan.

Here's where I tip my hat to WOOD - they send Albin down to cover it, and ran clips near the top of broadcast. None of the other GR stations have a headline at this point, not even Sinclair with an attack.

Lansing stations have a story, LNS just went up. Nothing in Detroit.

It be like that.

Dems endorse Gilchrist for secretary of state, Savit for AG Some progressive delegates made their voices heard at the Michigan Democratic Party's endorsement convention.

"The tenor at Huntington Place was notable as progressive delegates made their voices heard, cheering and booing candidates at the event that typically serves as an opportunity for the party to come together."

Freep's 2nd paragraph, more chastising about booing follows. Tsk tsk.

Not your friend.

Michigan Democrats back Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit in AG race Michigan Democrats endorsed Eli Savit for attorney general, highlighting his progressive priorities and environmental background.

"Along with Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist’s secretary of state nomination and the support shown for U.S. Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed, Savit’s win at the convention shows support for progressives in the party."

Advance and MLive bury the fact these are "progressive" wins deep in their stories. 🤔

5 things to know going into Michigan’s Democratic convention this weekend This weekend, Michigan Democrats will take the first step toward determining which candidates will represent the party in several big races.

You tell me on AG. Not even a clue as to who the party darling might be here.

"They are Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, Detroit-area public defender and trial lawyer William Noakes and Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney Eli Savit."

MDP gave us Nessel, hoping for similar wisdom today.

None that spring to mind, I'm sure there's some out there. I've picked it up over the course of 60 years. 😉

Like everywhere, the city/metro has become blue and attractive, surrounding burbs lean red but are quickly changing, rural is still deep red - but that's shrinking, and pushed farther out.

It is... but it isn't. Far more oppressive and prevalent when I was a kid.

GR itself, and increasingly the surrounding metro area, is progressive. A lot of the churches are too!

So, while you have DeVos, VanAndel $$ still a big driver in GOP, harsh CReform bigotry doesn't fly here. Complicated!

Great thread on the very complicated labor unrest that happened in Grand Rapids with our then main growth industry, furniture.

All the big wood furniture makers are gone. American Seating is here, is UAW, but number of employees is in the low hundreds.

We are a healthcare and college city now.
