Maybe it was a blessing that I wasn't invited to the Michael press screening. Completely feels like a fake movie to me.

A hot new bombshell has entered the Villa.
Welp got hacked on twitter. so here i am back to the other gutter.
Jason Segel and Samara Weaving get on their Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets Tom & Jerry shit in Jorma Taccone's OVER YOUR DEAD BODY— a hilarious gory bloodfest that sees him upgrading his action skillset since ripping throats out in MacGruber.

LEE CRONIN'S THE MUMMY got solid moments of grisly grossness but this part-EXORCIST/part-SEVEN horror is a bland, lethargic slog that should've been left in the crypt. SO MANY SAUCELESS SPLIT-DIOPTER SHOTS! How is that possible?!

I had to refrain from screaming "MOTHER" at pop star Anne Hathaway during David Lowery's MOTHER MARY — an intoxicating Hathaway/Michaela Coel two-hander about a popstar and her former fashion designer tryna "work it out on the remix".

Black Bear (2020)’s web connects them all.
Starting today at Rendy Reviews, we’re launching our ‘Ranked’ series for paying subscribers.
With PROJECT HAIL MARY out now making us sob with Gos Gos, there’s no better place to start than with my fave filmmaking duo Phil Lord & Chris Miller.

For @ebertvoices.bsky.social, I reviewed MAUL — SHADOW LORD. By far it's the highest-quality Lucasfilm CG series to date. However, its insistance on aura over insight on the former Sith Lord it furthers my trepidation towards this new Filoni era.
Wagner Moura rules tho.
Had a blast chatting about Project Hail Mary+ other Sci-fi gems with these wonderful professionals. So honored to have been a guest! Take a listen!
Going bigger while delivering less, as Illumination sequels tend to do, THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE functions like a Mario improv troupe. It operates on a continuous string of "yes, ands" with no structural discipline. Yoshi's Egg on my face for hoping to be at least entertaining.

I thought THE DRAMA to be a sharp, well-crafted, funny, tragic fable about the importance of accepting one's entire past before saying "I do." But Kristoffer Borgli is growing irksome on me with the same "fragile ego death slow-burn" storyline he's been doing for three films straight.
My review:
I love Meredith Alloway's FORBIDDEN FRUITS so much. It conjures up an hilarious gothic/femme witchy throwback, fueled by sharp wit, and subversive character work. Truly for the now-adult girlies who always wished Limited Too had a MEAN GIRLS and THE CRAFT section in their youth.

I really wanted to love THEY WILL KILL YOU out of SXSW but it goes from a delightful, blood-soaked ‘70s-style remix to a tedious experience hella fast. But please more Zazie Beetz lead roles @ Hollywood. Give her better action vehicles.

“This sophomore season offers some catharsis in a more narratively focused, albeit weaker, follow-up that shares a closer identity with the original Netflix series, for better and for worse,” writes @rendy.bsky.social about DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN.
Amy K. Jenkins’ intimate dual compilation portrait, Adam’s Apple, about her trans son Adam Sieswerda, is a raw and vulnerable, decade-sprawling tale about a rural northeastern family’s evolution as the eldest child embarks on a transition journey.
My review via @autostraddle.bsky.social:
READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME remains a gory, entertaining ride, even if it isn’t quite the level-up the sequel should’ve been.

Hi internet friends, I'm omw to SXSW (covering for Rendy Reviews and freelancer assignments). Rent just went through and need any sort of food/travel support. If anyone is so kind to send funds, I'd be so grateful. Also, my birthday is Friday.

HOPPERS is the weirdest, most unhinged, and unpredictable movies to come out of Pixar in years. But for Daniel Chong, this is just another Monday. Nevertheless, it's the best shock to the system the studio had to its system since TURNING RED.

Thank you
Rendy Reviews’ turned 14 this past week. I’ve been a film critic for 14 years! I’m so grateful for this job and the many doors it opened for me. But I need your support to keep running.
Honest film criticism is important in this dire time. If you can please subscribe to our pub today!
Wish I could time-travel to SXSW 2025 and experience NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE all over again. God, I haven’t been obsessed with something this Canadian since Scott Pilgrim.
Better late (and 4 watches) than never. My review:

GOAT: Man, I wished I liked this more. Tyree Dillihay’s directorial debut has bleating heart and stunning visuals, baaaaaaa-uuuuut lacks the innovation as past Sony Animation fare and the game to appeal to beyond the youngest of viewers.

Really enjoyed Amanda Kramer's BY DESIGN when I saw it at Sundance last year. Juliette Lewis body switches with a chair. No seriously. It's absurd, theatrical, esoteric and sturdy...like a chair.
Hits theaters Friday. Def check it out.

For the night crowd. Beautiful gowns. beautiful gowns.
The trailer is at least good!
