feel free to drop by and tell me what games you've played.

or what hidden gem you've uncovered. i'm absolutely all ears.

i want to honour the spirit of dosember, even if i'm not doing it at exactly the same time as the real event.

[/thread.]

my version of dosember will be called dosvember.

anyone at all is free to do this alongside me if they want to, but i WILL NOT be running anything community based.

it will be you, your stream and your audience and your dos games.

and if you do this in this way, i want you to have a LOT of fun.

...i will be doing dosember in NOVEMBER from this point onward.

that lets me sort of budge up against the official month, but it also takes me most of the way out of any sort of fracas that might befall the new version of the event. [which i hope it doesn't. it got picked up by a good sort.]

with that on my mind and with the example of nanowrimo [which self-destructed in a very awful way, also], i decided a pair of things - and this will be the norm going forward for me until i stop streaming:

i will be doing nanowrimo in SEPTEMBER from this point onward.

but also...

...much as i suggested in december:

i don't raid out at all anymore.
i don't try and find other members of the community.
if people want to watch me, that's cool but not required.

being part of the community when the community can just rip itself in two at the drop of the hat just feels bad.

while i was away, i did some soul searching about dosember.

i LOVE the event and the way it got torn apart last year just left me frustrated and i curled back in on myself, because that just seems like the safest thing to do in these big community spaces.

i am not full-hermit, exactly. but...

here comes a thread. enjoy.

i took about a week away from streaming. some of this is because of life issues, but some of it was also because i wanted to reinstall fedora. my install eventually borked itself in a way that i could probably troubleshoot, but wasn't finding enough information about.

broad takeaway:

i'm going to be even more of a hermit than i was before. i hate it. but that's just what this sort of thing teaches folks like me who are very introverted to begin with.

you can play games on the platform, but you need to be very wary of the people on it.

no more "getting involved with retro."
no more raiding.

i'm going to hang out on my stream and say hi to the people who visit and have a good time playing games. and that's about it for me.

this just solidifies everything i've always felt about twitch and spaces like twitch:

what's happened with dosember has made me remember why i'm functionally a hermit on twitch.

i think my resolution for next year is simple with regards to streaming. it's just "be more of a hermit."

i was looking forward to the event a lot - dosember is my favourite time of the streaming year.

next dosember game!

i'm now trying "superhero league of hoboken."

it's a hybrid adventure/rpg game. let's see how it goes :)

my first dosember game is complete!

i beat don't go alone in memory of ratclowncar.

most of it was pretty good. [the ending was a /little/ wonky.]

glad i tried it.

next up:

superhero league of hoboken! :)

[which i've tried in the past and never successfully finished.]

this is an image of a list of games that i, lostwolfe will be playing for dosember. dosember is a community run streaming event where folks play dos games for december. the list i'm planning to run includes: day of the tentacle, gateway, superhero league of hoboken, don't go alone [a rcc memorial game], ecstatica [maybe], hero's quest randomizer [maybe] and loom [maybe.]

erannorth chronicles is great because:

basically NO ONE is making a shandalar-alike in this day and age. all the card games are either: roguelite or free to play and stacked with pvp.

both aren't really my cup of tea, so it's nice to see someone actually follow in the path shandalar suggested.

ludus mortis is great because:

it takes the dungeon crawler to ancient rome. a rome with undead zombies. it's something we don't see very often.

i REALLY like that indie games often pick up the slack when it comes to under-represented genres.

i picked up and have been noodling around with:

--> ludus mortis, a kind of old-school first person dungeon crawler.
--> erannorth chronicles - a sprawling shandalar-alike.

both are neat.

a cool demo of a neat cyberpunk card-based roguelite has had my attention for the last week or so.

if you don't know about "into the grid" [which has that demo and is on steam], then you should definitely try it.

it currently has issues, but the developers are working towards release.

i like video games.

i have a fondness for old, 80's/90's dos games [particularly sierra on-line/lucasarts] but have grown to enjoy older rpg's and platformers, too.

i also love thoughtful, modern indie games.

favourites include: chicory, night in the woods, balatro, infernax and shovel knight.

dear video game developers:

more font size options more often.

[and other features like this.]

please and thank you.

someone with terrible vision :P

ok. i'm waiting for this version of this account on the other site to die. it's got a 30 day timer on it. if i don't interact with you there, that's why.

also, whoo boy. i don't trust this site as far as i can throw it, but we'll see how things go.

hello, i'm lostwolfe and i play video games on the internet. and in old, past lives, i used to write, too. but i'm very lazy, so that hasn't happened in a SUPER long time.

thanks for having a look around my profile and i hope you have a wonderful day.
