As some have noted in the comments to this post, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is the obvious answer. And it's the most correct one! Not only did it end the hair metal era and usher in grunge, it's a song that simply could not have been a chart-topping hit any earlier in music history.

I don’t know who came up with that line, but it was certainly an acceptable alteration of the original for the purposes of shirt immortalization

I would never discourage someone from boosting Bluesky’s engagement numbers, so by all means let’s see it

That’s wild, mine is long gone after presumably disintegrating from repeated use. I don’t think I have many shirts anymore that could be described as possessing sentimental value, which is the kind of thing that tends to happen when you start getting most of your clothes from Costco

Exquisitely timed ping, given that I just recently was forced into hoping that someone out there might appreciate something I once wrote. Ideally, it would have been a person in position to make my experience of unemployment mercifully brief, but hey, I’ll take it. Hope you all are in fine fettle.

We could sorely use some adherence, or at least widespread expectations thereof, to all sorts of codes of ethics these days.

The fifth paragraph reads: “The newspaper’s duty is to its readers and to the public at large, and not to the private interests of its owners.”

Was going through some materials accumulated over my many years at The Washington Post, and I was struck by these words of wisdom from the legendary Eugene Meyer, particularly (in light of recent events) the fifth graf.

There REALLY should be a rule against showing ads for scary movies during a program and time that would likely have a lot of kids watching

With fashion and feistiness, Naomi Osaka makes waves at the Australian Open After becoming the talk of the tournament with her ensembles, Osaka gets to the third round with a contentious victory that continued her bid to return to the top.

Looking to get back into the top 10, and presumably all the way back to No. 1, after so much early-career success, Naomi Osaka is off to a splashy start Down Under (although she could help herself by keeping her early-round matches under 3 sets)

Column | Indiana’s Curt Cignetti conquered college football six seconds at a time The Hoosiers’ incomprehensible journey to the sport’s mountaintop resulted from following their coach’s methodical approach.

Great quote on Curt Cignetti, via an excellent column by @barrysvrlugawp.bsky.social:
“He flipped the culture for us,” said [Elon's AD]. “When I talk about that, it turned from ‘Who do we play this week?’ to ‘Who do we get to play this week?’ 1/2

also, LOL to that throw going down in the play-by-play as a mere 14-yard TD pass. He chucked from the 40, off his back foot while under intense pressure

Thanks to NBC for finally showing the coverage on Kmet after like 5 replays of the pass (which definitely deserved some replays, to be clear), b/c it sure looked like he MUST have pushed off. But actually, not really! Just some fairly standard hand-fighting, w/Kmet the stronger dude

OMG, that was a crazy TD pass. Sometimes, the regular view you get on TV (i.e., not seeing the whole field) adds to the excitement, b/c there was no way to know who or what Caleb was throwing to there

I think that if the ball had popped out there when Cooks went to the ground with it, it would have been considered an incompletion. So he could be considered to have not completed the process of the catch when McMillian grabbed it, making for an interception. Just going by the NFL's rules, folks.

Has a hook and ladder (or lateral, if u prefer) play ever NOT worked? Can understand why teams only go to it in desperate situations, but also have to think versions of it could be used much more frequently.

Column | News conferences exist to inform fans. It’s too bad so many don’t get that. The debate over a reporter’s actions after a Jacksonville Jaguars game reveals a troubling misunderstanding.

Here’s my terrific colleague @candacedbuckner.bsky.social on why it was so problematic for a reporter to use her time at a Jaguars postgame news conference to give their coach a pep talk.

Halfway though the 4th quarter of Chargers-Pats, it'll be a total shock if we see another lead change. I know the Bolts' o-line is banged up, but man, their offense has looked putrid tonight.

Update: 12, with nearly a baker's dozen but for the Eagles coming up short in the final minute.

Now up to 10 4th quarter lead changes, and again, plenty of time left in this one for more

And there's 4th quarter lead change #9. Still some time for the Jags to answer!

Jags' TD with just over 4 minutes to go is the eighth 4th quarter lead change in three playoff games thus far (and this one ain't over, as I'm sure Jax fans fully realize)
